Whether true or not, the general consensus of opinion among those who follow basketball is that Ashland gets homecooking. There is one official in particular that knowledgeable coaches know to "blackball" from calling their games with Ashland.

He didn't referee either Ashland-Rowan County game this season because RC knew to "omit" him. He did referee the Ashland-Woodford County game and most independent observers, including some Ashlanders, felt he contributed greatly to Ashland's narrow win. He also refereed the district game a couple of years ago when Ashland, though trailing the entire game, shot 39 foul shots to Rose Hill's 10. Ashland came from behind to win that game at the foul line. A review of the tape of the game clearly indicated who called the fouls and when. There are numerous other examples through the years but these indicate why that particular referee is well known.

Fortunately, 16th Region officials don't referee the regional tournament.

Report it? Why? KHSAA has its pecking order.
