I played in that game. I wouldnt call us older members though. I was a sophmore that year and Im only 34.
On a side note, this game was finished with no fans at all in the stands. Just school personel and referees and the 2 teams. It was very weird.

I think L dot G dot was the meanest man in there that night.

You do a google search for prestonburg paintsville brawl and you get a link to this website with a thread from a couple years ago that goes into great detail about those involved.

Classy, classy bunch there. :eyeroll:

I love the guy coming over the PA telling people to sit down or leave the building!
#8
Wow, thats crazy! Is it just me or was there only one police officer at that game? I know we always have anywhere from 3-5 police officers at our games.

I was an assistant coach at the time and I was scouting Paintsville. The atmosphere was really heated. I left just minutes before the brawl. I turned on the radio when I got in the car and the announcers were talking about the brawl. I wasn't shocked to say the least.

I was a senior and there with my coach scouting P-burg... we decided to cancel the game after that mess!
#11
I remember it well.....

I am pretty sure the fight broke out between two Paintsville fans, rather than a Paintsville fan and Prestonsburg fan.

Not sure on that though.
#13
Wasn't there but I remember when it happened. It was all over the newspaper.
#14
That looked a little intense to say the least
#15
Sadly no, but I sure wish I was.

The fight started between a Paintsville players dad and a P-burg fan.

Everyone didn't leave the gym. If you remember people sitting on the stage beside Pville bench, myself, daughter and son stayed and watched the rest of the game along with about 15 other people on the stage.

There was 3 county cops at the other end of the gym trying to keep the Paintsville student body in their seats along with some of the parents.

And Paintsville was involved in a brawl years before that in '89-'90 with Belfry. Very similar scene except that particular fight was definately caused by the Paintsville players and not the fans. No internet video of this one though.

This wasn't a brawl. Belfry's JJ Hilton was sucker punched by one of the Paintsville players as JJ was going to the foul line if I remember correctly.
After the sucker punch the Pville player ran into the stands yo get away from JJ who was in pursuit. Cooler heads preveled with Belfry's players trying to calm JJ down.

Not sure who you are but you definately wasn't on either team or in the stands for it because you are way off. JJ was never hit. One of Paintsville's player, Holbrook, I believe came running at JJ during a timeout and tried to punch him from behind. A few of Belfry's players saw it coming and shouted to JJ to duck. Holbrook missed and then was chased by at least one of the Belfry players into Paintsville's stands. And yes this was a brawl. The majority of the fans from both teams were on the floor, a player's mother was almost knocked out and many players threw punches. The aggression stemmed from a very young and talented Belfry team embarrasing an older more experienced Paintsville team on their home court. Man those were the days!!!!

I was there and JJ did get hit by Holbrook and JJ chased him into the Belfry side of the gym. There were some tense moments but a BRAWL never ensued. Just a little pushing and shoving from some of the fans but the teams never got into it. I was sitting middle of the gym and saw everything so don't try making more out of it than it was. Now the P-burg game was definately a brawl.

I think this video has been the subject of a thread in the past on here...It's something that will never die. LOL.

Ok i was wondering, because i was going to say that you're just asking for a brawl with only one cop at the game!

Not trying to make anything "more out of it" but you my sir are wrong. I was there in the middle of it and for everyone that knows JJ he would have in no way chased a guy into the stands. JJ wasnt the fighting kind. Now that cant be said for a few others on that Belfry team who in fact did chase the guy into the stands, the problem was it was into Paintsvilles fans. FWIW, I was standing directly next to JJ and if he would have gotten hit by that punch he would have went down. Holbrook had a very good right hand and he also had a run and go at JJ so he never connected. BTW it was probably the only chance Paintsville had to win the game, knocking out Belfry's best player. Now you can take your point of view from the "stands" or take someone's point of view that was right in the middle of it but a punch was never connected and JJ actually stayed around the bench during the melee.

Everyone back to there seats.....OK..lol. And I thought Hazard and Perry was bad.

I was there that night but not sure who started it but one thing is for certain no brawl can compare the old Warfield High School - Pikeville brawl in the semifinals of the 15th region tournament at Johnson Central. There were no cops in the gym and both fans and players fought for close to 20 minutes or longer to things clamed down. This fight is the reason that the benches at Central are now on the sidelines as they use to be on the baseline which is where the fight started. Wayne Martin was the coach of Pikeville.

Is it me or does Paintsville players enjoy a good tussle or sucker punch? I remember their game at Lawrence County in 2008-2009 season one of Paintsville guards sucker punched one of Lawrence County's. Paintsville's bench cleared and just stood at the foul line to watch. While a few LC players on the floor tried to break it up and got tackled into the Tigers fan section by some of Paintsville's players.
