The Yankees officially offered their managerial job to Joe Girardi this morning and he is expected to accept it. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told Don Mattingly and Tony Pena that they will not be getting the job. Mattingly will not accept a position on the Yankees coaching staff.
Anyone really surprised by this?

He did a very good job with the Marlins in the one season he was there, but the expectations in Florida are no where in comparison than at New York. Being a former player not too long ago he should be able to relate very well with the players but we will have to wait and see if he is the right fit and can make the good calls as the skipper.

Im not really surprised, I mean Girardi was the best Candiate that they interviewed and like STATS said he did a very good job as the Marlins skipper.I just wish they Reds would have tried for him.Good Luck in New York!!

Can't wait for Girardi to take over, I don't think he will let the Steinbrenners push him around, he will be calling all of the shots.
