Shelby Valley's schedule

what does everyone think?

Only 7 home games is kind of surprising. The Blue Crew is a big thing at Valley, and we'll not get to do much this year, disappoints me.
#3
Yea I agree, should been more home games!!
#4
Very tough schedule. They won't have nearly the same kind of record as last season but when post season comes around they'll be well prepared for tough games.

Looks like a tough schedule, but why the reason for just seven home games? Looks like a lot of traveling for the Wildcats this season.
#6
I have one question first: Are we sure that this schedule is complete, or is it possible that more games may be added later?

As for the listed schedule, all I can say is WOW. Individual games against Male, Ashland, Perry Central, and Scott, plus holiday tournaments in Louisville and New York. Looks to be extremely difficult, and Valley could easily have 10 losses by the time postseason tournament time comes. But, as mentioned above, all those games against good competition will only serve to make them a better team in the long run.

One other nugget: if the schedule stays as is, SV will have exactly two home games during a 2-month span from Dec. 13 to Feb. 12! I have never seen a schedule that has so few home games as this one.

If you're going to play GOOD competition and get exposure for your players, then you've got to leave the Mountains from time to time....It's a challenging schedule and should prepare SV for post season and get the Wildcats some exposure outside of our little Mountain world.
#8
If you can play and win on the road then it is pretty likely you can win at home. I like the schedule and the degree of difficulty it provides for SV. It will only make them better.
#9
When it all comes down to it, the regular-season record means nothing except for the district games, and that just for seeding. Even if this schedule hangs a few more losses on the Wildcats, none of that will matter if they become a better team because of it. Win region and make a good showing at state, and no one will care if you had 10 losses.

This is a team that needs to play difficult schedule to prepare mentally for tourney time. But 7 home games is a mistake in my opinion.
#11
Evidently SV and Pikeville have the same theory regarding scheduling. Pikeville only has 5 home games plus the PIT according to the KHSAA website. I guess time will tell if Booher and Williams are playing their cards right with this scheduling.

I think it's a great move for both teams. If you've got a good team, you need to get out and play some competition, so that you know what areas of the game your players need to work on.

Besides, this ain't the BCS in college football, where a couple of losses knocks you out of the chamionship picture!

Valley has a fantastic opportunity to grow throughout the season. Instead of banking of the easy W, they will take their beatings and pull out hard fought wins. I like the fact that the competetion is amzing. It will serve the right pupose when they begin bowling through the district teams.
#14
Can anyone confirm if this schedule is correct? I know the schedule posted for the girls does not include several games, including a few home games. And, Blue/White night is slated for November 17th. Then, the boys and girls will be showcased.
#15
Also, was Valley not invited to the WYMT Classic this year? Or, are those teams not announced yet?

I am pretty sure that Pikeville is the only school from the 15th Region in the WYMT this year.

You are correct. According to some who posted on an earlier thread about the WYMT tournament, Valley was invited but declined due to scheduling condlicts. Whether this is true or not, I think SV still has plenty enough good competition to keep them occupied this season.

Most schools have a home and away contract each year, so I would say he had to honor his away games. The next year he will have more.
#19
Blue Crew is a big factor for SV. They're basically taking the Blue Crew out until region and district. SV has a tough schedule. But I look for them to make the best efforts to win every game.
#20
I see them going 14-10, Does anyone know the teams they play in New York?

There upset win over Johnson Central.
#21
they are goin to play some tough teams in NY. but not any teams that they cant beat.

Can you tell us what other teams are in the tourney in NY? What their strengths and weaknesses are?
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

Here's a list of the teams Shelby Valley will face in their tournament in New York, and the bracket as well.

Looks tough, but it will make them a better team in March.

that lineup for Valley better be changing, Tyler Newsome is not a Varsity starter, he is not that goodl, they have him starting over Bacon and Jonah, that better be a misprint and they meant to put "Taylor" Newsome.
#25
Bacon is Taylor Newsome right ?
#26
Taylor Newsome's nickname is Bacon, so yes you're right, and he or Jonah should be starting, not Tyler Newsome, but with Greg being around the program I wouldn't doubt Tyler starts sometime this year.
#27
I'm sure they meant Taylor, but Tyler Newsome isn't a bad player. I got to see him a few times last year and he seems like a pretty good player. I'm sure he has developed over the summer and he seems to really enjoy the game. He will be a contributor this year and a fine one at that.

Tyler didn't dominate JV, he shouldn't be playing Varsity at all, keep him at JV.
#29
jv is where he should be playing at

I didn't see anybody that said he did dominate JV. But the games I saw he looked like a good ball player in them. Plus if anybody can help him improve it is his dad. That's all we'll say about Tyler Newsome but I think he'll come along just fine.
