Martin County at Shelby Valley 11/15

Martin County vs Shelby Valley. Thoughts?

Watching Martin Co play is like watching the weather change . One week there solid , making plays and executing well . The next week they look like jello . Game this week was nothing short of sloppy. If they play like they did against PCC it could very well be the end of the road for them and I would hate to see them lose to SV this late in the season . They seriously have some of the best talent in the mountains playing for them . They have to comr out focused and execute their plays , use the belly , it is always a different scheme for them, that I blame on the staff. Maynard and Watts make a great offense duo . Lafferty and Cheeck , best LB's around . SV really shouldn't even be able to score on them .

From the way they played last week and the way valley has been rolling the last few weeks, as of today I'd have to go valley. It's at valley and that is a tough place to go and get a win. Closer it gets to Friday I might change my mind.

Good players but you lose credibility with statements like that one. Just because D&D posts workout videos and promotes certain kids whose parents beg and pay them to, doesn’t mean they are the best around. I can name several LBs better in their region. Agree that Martin should win the game.
#5
Their LBs are putting up numbers and making big plays when needed . As for what media outlets do and promote is their business. If you are talking about their parents paying for them to be promoted then , great that is what parents are suppose to do but don't think that is the case. I don't think either one of those sets of parents would even have the financial means to do that . ?

Yes everyone is entitled to their opinion but it doesn’t mean it’s a good take. “Numbers” on a middle of the road team against other middle of the road teams or worse doesn’t mean as much. Good players but not the best LBs around. Not top 5 even.

Not saying best in the state but best in their district/region local area 2A . Would .They work well together and make stops on the ground when needed . Both of those boys work hard and are very respectful on the field and within their communities . Martin Co . Is very lucky to have them.

i have never watched or read anything those stupid "media outlets" who film games on an ipad post..... i have them blocked on all platforms because they are ALL crap and money sucking parasites

with that said, if you dont think lafferty is one of the best LBs in eastern ky you should watch a game...... that kid can really play and i think he is only a sophomore

I said both are good/great players. I’ve watched the sophomore several times but when saying someone is the best at their position in the area, gotta keep in mind who plays in local and surrounding districts. Like you said just a sophomore and may earn that one day but is not in top 5 this season in my opinion. JC and Pikeville have some kids who can go at that position and do it against top tier schedules. It’s one thing to put up numbers against Valley, Pike Central, Betsy Layne, Prestonsburg, Floyd Central and an entirely different level when playing against Madison Central, Ashland, Corbin, Belfry, LCA, Ironton.

So you're only as good at your position as the competition you play against? Gotcha.

Not what I said. But if someone has 3 TDs against those schools or 3 TDs against the other competition listed, which carries more weight? Simply pointing out numbers don’t tell who’s better when they don’t play the same competition. Watch JC, Belfry, Pikeville and then if you think Martin County has 2 linebackers who are the best in the area, I’ll agree to disagree. I know what my eyes tell me and while those young men from Martin Co are good players, they aren’t the top linebackers in the area.

Seems like Martin has played better on the road this year than they have at The Rock, so that may play into their favor this week. Martin's new offense looks much better than their old one, and they hung 40 against Valley earlier this season with their old one. If Martin forces a couple of turnover's early like they usually do as the state leader in INT's then this one may be over by the middle of the 3rd qtr. Martin is more physical and more talented than this Valley team. I look for Martin to come out fired up and violent in this one and take care of business.

im gonna go martin county for this reason. they put up 40 points in the first game and two kids who combined for 28 carries for 218 yards a week ago didnt carry the ball once in the first game.

Agree with what you’re saying, however, the linebacker from Martin co would be starting at JC. He’s stronger and faster than JCs. JC has struggled at the linebacker position and on defense in general. I believe the kid is actually from Johnson county. But the best linebacker in the area is Pikeville’s Anthony.

Don’t disagree JC defense overall has issues and he would start there. I just think when someone says “best” at their position, shouldn’t be anyone else out there better and there are several locally. Kid is a great player but not the best at his position yet. He may earn that next couple years but not yet.

Interesting game.

Martin Co did win over Shelby Valley earlier this year, 40-28. However, that game was at Martin, and this one will be played at Valley.

As for common opponents, both teams lost big to Perry Cent, SV by 20 and MC by 17. Both schools beat Floyd Cent, SV by 18 then by 32, while Martin beat them by 29. Both also beat Pike Cent, although Martin blew them out while Valley held on for a 2-point win.

It looks like Martin Co should be a small favorite. I'll say they win a close one, 42-34.

Looks like two teams that has improved through the season. The turnover battle may win this one.

Look for Valley to take this one. Tough place to play.
#22
Shocked if Valley wins. If MC can play a lick they win by 2-3 TDs and maybe more
