Sleeper teams
#1
Does anyone have any guesses on a sleeper team for this years State Tournament??
I believe if any Class is gonna have one it's gonna be 3A or 2A imo

I would have said Madison central for 6A before losing to GRC in a blowout.
Douglass hasn’t been great this season against top talent but I’d say they’re a good sleeper. Station figures out ways to win playoff games can’t ever count them out.

for 3A lex cath could be a sleeper pick they have some more them but I still expect central to take it.

4A is a 3 team race and that really could be a 1 team race if we were being honest

5A possibly a team like
woodford or Scott county. Owensboro is another sleeper but they got killed by BG so I’m not so sure they have the talent. Graves doesn’t look terrible but not sure how they’ll get around south Warren/BG

1A is a two team race being completely honest. Sayre looks like a million bucks but we haven’t seen them play a single team that is supposed to be half decent. KCD/Campbellsville have a fighting chance.

2A is interesting but I’d say Owensboro Catholic is surely going to get the job done but LCA/beechwood are going to be involved.

I’d say Ashland and Johnson Central in 4A. Ashland returned a huge part of the team that nearly won in round 2 last year at Cov Cath who played in the state finals. And no one has proven they can stop JC running attack. They just can’t stop anyone. If JC can eat clock and get a lucky break with a turnover against one of the favorites they have a shot to make a major upset.

I agree,  Ashland is going to be tough in the playoffs.  Wouldn't surprise me at all to see them in the finals.

I honestly hope that JC is kinda the sleeper team in 4a this year  Smile  .  Gotta take care of business tonight.  Then we're likely on the road to Cub Catholic next week.  That'll be one of the more intriguing games in the state,  in round 2. Then the winner of that game will participate in the much speculated, debated,  and dreaded round 3 game vs Boyle.

I'm really hoping JC has dialed in their defense in the past two weeks.

Ashland has little to NO chance of being in the finals. Same for Corbin. The Ashland-Corbin winner in round 3(it will be at Corbin) will play at Boyle the following week. Ashland/Corbin will lose by 40+ to Boyle.

Scott County won't make it to region. Quit being hopeful.

Is Boyle for sure who the winner of Ashland vs Corbin would face in round four?

Or would the winner of the Corbin and Boyle matchup play the 1 seed from the west? And Boyle play the 2 seed from west?

I guess what I'm asking is,  does the eastern team's play the western in the semi's? Or does the east play east and west play west in the semi's? Thus setting up a finals game with one team from the east and one from the west?

If I didn't make things more complicated here  Big Grin

That's what I meant to say at the start of the 2nd paragraph.  I messed up there,  couldn't find a way to correct it.

Semi finals the overall seeding will be 1/4 and 2/3.   Currently Boyle is 1, Franklin is 2, PT #3, and Ashland/Corbin winner would be 4.

I believe Paducah is the only team that can come away with a halfway respectable score in the finals against Boyle. Even though I'm an eastern Kentucky homer and would like to see Ashland or Johnson Central in the finals it would not be competitive. And I could be wrong, Boyle may be 40 or 50 better than Paducah also.....No sleepers here, the two best teams will play in the finals.
