I know Pikeville won their 3rd straight title last December but I truly believe 2023 was the weakest team to win a state championship at Pikeville but they had a stud at RB nobody in Class A came close to containing.  This year's Pikeville team will be better than last year's team regardless of what their record is going into the playoffs with their very tough 2024 schedule and they still obviously have that same stud RB plus a few more from what I've been told...and the defense has the ingredients to be special. The young talent they have coming up for the next several years is very impressive which is why if anyone was gonna take the Panthers out of the Class A playoffs last year was the year to do it.  Coach MacNamee and his staff have it rolling right now with no end in sight.

I agree with you. Good article in yesterday's Pikeville paper. They were talking to QB Duty. Basically said Pikeville could be ground and pound 1 play and air raid the next and not miss a beat. They have so many good RBs and receivers to go with their great QB it's unreal. I don't think Class A teams can stop the running game or the passing game much less both. And defense will be championship level also. Scrimmage vs. Breathitt tomorrow, LFG!!!

The biggest thing in HS football offensively is if you can force teams to stay balanced. Pikeville will be able to do just that. Last year they didn’t have the lightning in a bottle kid at receiver. As good as Boykins was, he just wasn’t that guy. They have a lot of talent that played JV last year, especially the Reynolds kid. Pikeville will already be hard to deal with but with the development of the outside receiver position it makes them that much more dangerous.

Bigger, stronger, faster version of last year’s team everywhere except line. They lost 3 good linemen. I know they have some guys coming back they expect to fill those spots but how well they do it likely determines just how great that team is ultimately. Big tests first 6 games of the season. They will need to grow up quickly.

11. Bishop Brossart-They return just over 1700 yards and 1200 of that on the ground. All quarterbacks who played snaps are returning. They return 4 of their top 7 in tackles from last season.

12. Bethlehem- Didn’t lose much from last year and bring back couple good wideouts and solid running back. Look to have 8 returning defensive starters with a solid secondary.

13. Paintsville - they return a quarterback who got some good experience last season. They return just over 1400 yards and return 7 starters and 2 of its top two in tackles. Paintsville will still be young.

14 Hazard- looking to rebound from the worst season in history. Bulldogs return 9 starters both ways and close to 1600 yards offensively. Pelfrey will have some good targets coming back plus some good young and talented youth coming up.

15. Frankfort- close to 1900 yards back and two returning quarterbacks, and returning all 11 of its top in tackles from last season. Not sure if all are starters but good nucleus to build off of after year one for its new coach.

I’m hearing Paintsville just lost one of their returning studs in Crayson Lafferty, to Martin County. He led the Class A in tackles this past season as a freshman. He was also the other RB they had returning. He’s a heck of a wrestler, maybe that was part of the decision to transfer. Martin County has very good group of young wrestlers coming up.

Lafferty did transfer to MC. Kid was a hammer for Paintsville.  Heard he has packed on 20 pds of muscle . I do think that wrestling played a big part in his transfer and I think he has family from that area . He should help lead the Cardinal Nation for a few years .
