8/4 Pikeville @ Breathitt Co
#31
Sounds like the scrimmage gave both squads things to work on
Good luck to Breathitt they can be solid in 2A and have a good season
Good to hear Pikeville line looked good they will get better all year
Pikeville offense will be a thing of beauty

Typical Breathitt hype. They have had one good year since 2009. All mouth and no hard work.

Just sad. More worried about live streams and photo shoots. This is exactly what daddy ball and booster money gets ya.
You are hitting the nail on the head. I had to get off fb because of seeing this farse. Have nothing against the bobcat football team but its just unreal how these people act like the scrimmage was just a draw for each team and an opportunity for photo shopping certain Bobcat players. By my count, Pikeville had a total of 32 points in the scrimmage. As previously stated "this is just a scrimmage" so that coaching staffs can make adjustments and critique both O and D squads and personnel for the betterment of the entire team. But credit should be given where its due. Sure, im a Pikeville fan but from what I saw they looked to be the much better football team tonight.

I watched online. My takes? Pikeville is going to be just fine and while the separation between them and everyone else may be a little closer, it’s not likely close enough to make a difference. Their run game is going to be unreal. Breathitt did ALOT of things that made Pikeville look like a dominant force though. Couldn’t catch easy balls, wiffed on tackles (it’s one thing to try and tackle Anthony, but there was some bad tackling). Complete a lot of those dropped passes and you have a different looking game. A lot of them were not contested and the QB had plenty of time.

Pikeville is still Pikeville. But anyone claiming Breathitt is back is dreaming as of now. It was more of what they didn’t or couldn’t do than what Pikeville did do. Pikeville didn’t have to take anything from them because Breathitt consistently shooting them self in the foot.

Went back and watched some of this one since I’ll be down on the riverbank in 2 weeks just to get an idea of what to expect. If this was a real game it’d be something like 35-7 Pikeville. I think a lot of people are getting Anthony and Caudill for Pikeville confused. Caudill was getting most of the carries what I seen. Breathitt did have a lot of drops and bad throws by the qb when the receiver was wide open though.

Whoever the hell was running the ball for Pikeville looked like looked like a bigger version of Pugh and ran like Birchfield. I may be bad wrong but I don’t see Pikeville taking a step back this year.

I think your right AC. Once that line jells it will naturally make more of a difference. Anthony is good at delivering a hit while running the ball and dodging a hit if need be. He seemed to be quicker than last season too, jmo. Caudill is very similar in running the as well. Both are juniors.

caudill and anthony are not getting tackled easily by anyone 1a is pikevilles to lose

Pikeville back to Kroger, Breathitt needed to throw shorter passes other than that Breathitt going to be good

Pikeville did exactly what I thought. Line will be more than fine.

Breathitt is lacking athletes.

Caudill and Anthony will more than make up for the OL growing pains. I will say I could see the difference in the OL this year. Both in size and speed. But they are young and that’s to be expected. Tbh, comparing apples to apples. Pikeville looks to have lost as much as Raceland and visa versa. Which means Pikeville is still quite a bit ahead of the next best 3 in 1A.

Breathitt has to pass less if they plan on being competitive. Like I have said many times in the past few years, Run the ball 60% of the time if not more. If it’s the same ole game plan and play play calling it will be the same result.

Caudill and Anthony were easy to be confused in that scrimmage. The only way i could tell the difference was from watching them play the position last season. Last season Anthony wore #35 game jersey, and Caudill wore #14. In their first game this season should be easier to tell them apart.

Pikeville will walk to 1a title.

Breathitt has lots to work on. Defense needs to work on tackling. I know it's preseason scrimmage and Pikeville is good but come on. Offense, I'm hoping, was just trying a few things out. Other than Sperry no real threats down the field not that the QB could get it to them anyway. Line looked good except for the bad snaps. I'm hoping Kyle don't overthink it this season and put too much responsibility on this unproven and inexperienced QB. For this team to get to where some of us think it can it's going to be thanks to the running of Combs and Gibson and that big o line.

Pikeville will not walk to a 1 A title. They have a good shot at it. Made the trip to Jackson and here is what I saw. Breathitt has some work to do and Pikeville was the better team. Pikeville’s schedule is tough and this young line will take some lumps but by playoff time will be ready to make a run at Kroger. Their regular season record may suffer but the end is what matters. Breathitt also has a very tough schedule but I just don’t see them making a serious run at championship. Pikeville has to stay healthy they are not as deep as last year.

It would have been interesting to see if Breathitt could have moved the ball in the wishbone. Everything they tried seemed to fail more often than not.
#47
That’s what I noticed with Breathitt. They looked more like a power team than one that can just air it out. Maybe they know that and that’s what they were trying to work on was the passing game…

I am hoping that they just through out a generic offense knowing eyes where on the scrimmage for next week. There is always hope. Lol

If Breathitt is going to have a strong year, they are going to have to play to their strengths. If the QB play doesn't improve, they will have to operate out of the wishbone. Combs and Gibson need to be getting the majority of the touches, and with opposing defenses stacking the box, this should give Sperry a lot of opportunities down the field. Offensively, I just don't see this team operating out of the shotgun. Defensively, as I have said in the past, I would like to see Breathitt operate out of the 4-3. I would move Tincher up to end, and let him be a nightmare for opposing tackles. Also, If Breathitt wants to improve, Sperry needs to be playing in the defensive backfield. He is a shutdown corner, and against teams who throw the ball around, he will be needed. Tackling will need to improve, but they have only been in pads for a week. I look for Breathitt to improve and bounce back in a big way this week at Paintsville. Pikeville on the other hand, looked like a vintage Pikeville team. Big up front, strong backs, and very athletic skill players. Pikeville made some mistakes on defense, but Breathitt couldn't take advantage of it. Pikeville tackled well, to be the first scrimmage, and I liked their speed in the secondary. Pikeville's backs ran hard, and their line did an excellent job, getting them to the second level. Pikeville is the class of 1A, and I don't see anyone challenging them.
