In Your Opinion: Top Running Backs
#1
List your Running Back and what team they play for...

He don’t get enough credit state wide, but cam combs is a beast. Fast, elusive side to side, and a hard runner. Great vision.

Simon kentons Rb j Lawson. Just an all round athlete. Solid RB. Goes down a little easier than some, but makes up for it with speed and vision.

Only got to see him once, but Freddy D RB TJ Horton. Omg!!! That kid has to be one of the fastest in KY. And I’m including college. That or boyles secondary is just that slow. Which I don’t believe to be the case. I didn’t pay much attention to him at first. But FD either ran an outside zone or it could have been a screen, not sure now. But boyle had that side spread out and covered with defenders. Horton waits and waits, and then BOOM! He found a little hole and just gassed it through there. Boyle literally had 4 people unblocked just waiting and He ran right past them. Unbelievably fast in space.

Seen a lot of quisenberry (sp) for boyle. Everything you’d look for in an Rb, plus I believe he’s young too. I actually think he’s faster than what he looks, and he looks fast.

I think JCs chase price don’t get enough credit. I guess it’s hard when you have as many good RBs come through your system than Micheal Jackson did pain pills running through his. ??‍♂️?‍♂️ But the kid is very underrated. He won’t out run as many as their other backs but he don’t have to. He’s hard to bring down. Runs head first. And if you don’t hit him below the waist, you’re wasting your time.

There’s definitely way more. And probably some better than what I mentioned. But these are the ones I’ve seen

For my area Max Johnson from Hazard. Jonah Little from Letcher Central might as well be a Rb. Both are very good.

EASILY in our district it's Peyton Smith for Taylor county. I would put him up against about any 3A running back in the state. He's been hurt a lot this year, and rumors of him missing his old teammates in Campbellsville. He still absolutely dominated, ran over and around Glasgow when he was healthy. I'm not sure Taylor County has lost a game where he's played in it the full game this year...Maybe against Spencer...I think he missed 3 quarters of that game though. He's also just a sophomore.

Combs(Corbin) and Lawson(SK) are at the top of what I've seen in Corbin games. Both are superb. Kenton doesn't get enough credit for just how good their offense is and Lawson carries a big part of the load for them.

Demauriah Brown and Montavin Quisenberry own the running back crop in Title Town

Demauriah Brown at Danville is tough. Daniel Thomas at Bell County has put up huge mumbers this season. Knox Central has had a disappointing season, He has played QB and RB , but Steve Partin has quietly put up some big numbers.
#8
Johnson Central's sophomore Zack McCoart leads the best group of running backs that I have seen this season. He is averaging 9.6 yards/carry, 147 yards per game, with 21 touchdowns. Fullback Chase Price is averaging 8.4 yards/carry and 88 yards per game. Mason Lawson, who did not join the starting offense lineup until Carter Conley suffered a broken leg, is averaging 6.9 yards/carry and 66 yards per game. Carter Conley was averaging nearly 150 yards/game until leaving the game against North Laurel after his only carry. In limited action, freshman Logan Music is averaging 9.7 yards/carry and 28 yards/game.

Letcher County Central's Jonah Little would be near the top of the list of running backs that I have seen play this season but he is playing quarterback. He is averaging 156 yards/game. Johnson Central, which held Belfry's offense to 91 yards rushing, "limited" Little to 130 yards rushing on 20 carries.

Dang. If Corbin made just made it to the semis we would have faced 6 out of the top 15 players leading in rushing. And 4 out of the top 5 just to make it to state.

Already played:
Steve partin #2
Dumphord #14

To make it to the semis:
T. Jordan Harlan co. #13
J little LCC #2
McCoart JC #5
Rayno Logan co. #1

It’s a good thing I like our rushing defense haha. Btw, does anyone else feel like it’s Cortez stones 7th year playing HS football
Out of central?

It’s still mind boggling how Little just got 26 carries last season. I griped all year that he wasn’t playing RB. He and Adams back there would have been really hard to stop.

He’s one heck of a rusher at #2 on the season. Out of 10 games that was #5 on fewest rushing yards allowed for him. He’s put up some big numbers too. Had 2 270+ rushing games. I believe he only had 2
games under 100 yds too. I’ve not seen much of him. So I don’t know if most those are designed QB run plays or broken plays scrambling. Probably a little of both I assume. Or an RPO with him being the R haha. Either way someone better find the David Crockett game film if they are facing him.

Are you kidding me? What in the world did they do with him last year? I’m pretty sure you’ve seen a lot of him. Are these scrambling yards or is it like the hefty lefty playing calling minus the hefty, and maybe
the lefty part too.

man I loved the real J LO

Blake Birchfield from Pikeville is at or near the top of any list
#14
Yea. I forgot about burchfield. He deserves to be in there somewhere.

I wouldn't place these kids on the same level of some of the guys mentioned in this thread but they have been fun to watch.

Paintsville - Harris Phelps (167 car/ 1096 yds/ 13 TDs)
Pike Central - Matt Anderson (150 car/ 1144 yds/ 15 TDs)

Prestonsburg - Ethan Jarvis (204 car/ 1628 yds/ 26 TDs)
Betsy Layne - Reese Music (149 car/1770 yds/ 21 TDs)
#16
Blake Birchfield - Pikeville
TJ Horton - FD
Daniel Thomas - Bell Co.
Cortez Stone - Central

Southwestern's Tanner Wright and Christan Walden make an awesome duo for the Warriors.

A name to remember is Jayden Gibson from Breathitt. Kid is just a freshman and just took over feature back role a few weeks back so the numbers aren't there but he rushed for well over 200 yards against Middlesboro. He is a tough hard nose runner usually taking multiple defenders to take him down. He's only gonna get bigger, faster and stronger as he ages. He has the chance to be special.

#21
Simon Kenton Jayden Lawson 944 yards 11 tds in 5 games and 1 qtr.

After watching the Little kid from LCC, I’d have to say he’s a good runner. Can’t say he’s even top 10 in running backs since they have him at QB. But the kid has excellent vision in running the ball as a QB. He don’t force it, let’s it come to him and then goes. But RB aside, the kid can run with some of the best of them.
