Wayne Mills and Scottie Russell. They will pull some Corbin players if selected. Just my opinion..

You watched the last couple seasons?  Scottie Russell by himself might be able to pull some players but Wayne Mills couldn’t get a Corbin football player with diarrhea to follow him to the crapper…

I've heard the same thing.  Larkey's been at North Laurel as long as Parkey has been at Rockcastle.  It will be interesting to see how both programs, Rockcastle and North Laurel progresses in the next four years.  I do wish Coach Parkey the best in his future endeavors.  He's a good guy.  I'd like to see him take over another program way from Rockcastle and start from scratch and see how it worked out.

Guys I’m am not trying to start any crap on here at all! I just feel like Rockcastle County is making the “easy hire”. There are many young(er) coaches who are ready to build, resurrect, or make a positive mark on a solid foundation like Rockcastle has. This just feels like same old same old. I know Rockcastle County doesn’t reach outside “their people” very often but this is a very good school district, great schools…bring in new blood and truly make an effort to start something new and special!

Im not in the know at Rockastle and I only know Blair by reputation but it would seem if he was willing to come at all, he would have been the better option.  I don’t think Larkey is necessarily a bad hire but imo he’ll accomplish no more than Parkey did, but that just my opinion and it won’t even get you a cup of coffee.

Lol rock better hope for redistrict regardless of who they get as coach. They will be battling for 3rd every year behind Dudley and Crutchfield/hester. A new coach can’t fix those problems

I know of three from schools other then NL. Add in Christian Larkey. Along with a solid group coming up. Gates are open. We shall see how many and who the next month or so. But all I can say rock will look different from this year.

William Blair is more than ready and had some of the best defenses in the state the last 5 years, but he’s sitting in a good spot with Holcomb and making about as much as an assistant in Madison County as he could as the head coach at Rockcastle. Calhoun might but has a good program in TN, but let’s be honest…the Rockcastle job isn’t what it’s was 10, 20, 30 years ago and won’t be in football for some time…at least I don’t see it (I’ve seen middle school games from the district and region they play in). This will be an interesting and HUGE decision for Rockcastle. Wish them well!
Must not have seen any games this year. The middle school, especially 8th grade is good. Both coaches are fine men. It’s funny that the job isn’t what it was 20 or 30 years ago. The style of football has stayed what it was 20-30 years ago. Parkey is a great football mind. Unfortunately, too many people around the program resists changing from “power football”. Difficult to succeed with that style giving up size everywhere. I wish both guys at their new positions.

These comments are very interesting and at the same time very misinformed. Being one of parkeys very first players that he ever coached at Roundstone Elementary as a basketball and football player and knowing him even before that I can say he does care about his kids. But he was never going to have success as the HC of the Rock. He's what I would call a dreamer. Big ideas with no foundation to build those ideas on. Rock football has and always will be about toughness. He wanted to play a finesse type of way. That would never work here. It's no coincidence Larkey comes in and his 2nd yr they have a better team than Parkey ever had. It's a traditional based mentality that makes this program what it is. Larkey will continue to be very successful. He knows what the community needs to produce kids that can play the game. His dad understood that and yes he had a dynasty here. You can't look at numbers, wins, losses and judge what a dynasty is. By that logic only 3A dynasty is Boyle during that time. That's just not true. During that time Bell, Boyle, Rock, all had created dynasty programs in their respective communities. Dynasties are judged on the impact that is made on the sport and community supporting them. There was no 3A school during Larkeys time that wanted to see the Rock on their path to the state finals.

The fact no one has mentioned the legend Tony Saylor is disrespectful. His absence from the program is what made parkey unable to be successful. Now that Chris has taken the job he's back around the program putting that energy back into the kids. Tom gets all the credit from those yrs he was here but to my knowledge he was never offered by almost every D1 college in the state to take a job. Tony was. He was the brains of the defense that nobody wanted to play against. He was one of the most brilliant defensive minds in the history of Ky HS football. That man put in more film hrs than anyone in the state and I'd bet my life on that. Every kid that played for him would say the same thing. Every kid that played for those 2 men would say they would do it again and never say they were mistreated. It was football in the 90s, early 2000s. It was different. Kids didn't need to be coddled like today. They made men and did a very good job of it. Respectfully all anyone can say about parkey is he's a nice guy. In this area it takes the personality that Chris has to be successful. He's fair with the kids, he treats them respectfully but at the same time he's not trying to be their friend, he's that throwback tough coach you have to have in this area to take less talent and get the absolute most out of it. They should have changed HC a long time ago. There's just something about how Chris and his dad approach the game that makes them be able to be successful in this area that doesn't work anywhere else but here it's exactly what is needed. It's having guys around them like Josh Martin that grew up with Tom, and Tony coaching him and being able to instill that toughness he was taught into the kids today. Keep your eyes out for the Rock. It's on its way back up.
