Hats off to the Battaile kid, he's a heck of a good player...and to the talented group that is on the floor with him. Pikeville has a quality TEAM!
#40
Not only is Wyatt Battaile a great player but I got to meet him tonight and he's very respectful young man and so are the rest of these guys congratulations boys on a great tournament now go make some noise at the RUPP
#41
What college offers does Battaile have on the table right now?

I don't know much about the Pikeville program but it sounds like they won't lose much and will be pretty good next season. I would love to see the Panthers build the kind of program that would be very competitive for the 15th region title most years. Pikeville has always had good athletic teams, especially for a small school, but I've always found it odd that the success they consistently see on the baseball field and football field doesn't carry over to the basketball court as much. I understand without the class system Pikeville would not have near as many region titles in football.

Before tonight Pikeville had only one 15th region title in like the past 50 years or so. With as weak as the 15th region is most seasons, atleast compared to other regions in the state I think it's surprising the Panthers have advanced to the state tournament so seldom. I would be interested in what Pikeville has coming up thru the system and if this season's success could really be an indication of the future of Panther basketball and see Pikeville seriously competing for regional championships? I'm sure there will be transfers to, right or wrong, because that's the reality we live in today.

First thing. Good God some of you are the most petty people on Earth. Both sides. What is done is done. That's all I will say on that.

Second. Hail Pikeville! Feels great to see PHS cut the nets for just the 2nd time in my lifetime. An awesome group of kids and I am happy for them. Region Title Number 10 is coming back to the Ville!

Total team effort, but special shout outs to Cade Byers and Evan Rhodes. They had games of a lifetime on the biggest stage they have played on to this point. Keep it rolling and let's make some noise in the 859! On, On Maroon & White!

After a long and not-so-restful night, just a few closing thoughts about this game.... and yes, this one still hurts.

At the end of the 1st qtr., JC led 24-17. Everything looked to be going JC's way.

At the 4:59 mark in the 2nd qtr., JC led 38-20. At this point, if somebody would have told me JC would loose by 11 points, I would have laughed them out of the Expo. Their deadly 3 point shooting attack was dialed in and they were playing like a championship team on both sides of the ball.

Halftime, JC led 43-35. JC was hitting the shots they had hit all season. JC caused Pikeville to turn the ball over several times in the 1st half and was playing some of their best basketball of the entire season. Pikeville was having a tough time with JC's press and putting points on the board.

Oh but the 3rd qtr. changed the game.... Pikeville went on a 27-12 run in the 3rd qtr. and never looked back. Pikeville led 62-55 at the end of the 3rd qtr. Pikeville was patient with the ball, hit some big shots, rebounded and played like a different team from the 1st half.

The 4th qtr. was hard to watch... JC just couldn't get any rhythm. With 1:54 left, Pikeville led 84-80. Normally, in a situation like this Crace and Blair would fire up some 3's... and normally, those shots would fall or JC would be able to rebound and get another shot attempt. But not tonight, Pikeville's #2 and #12 would come down with the rebound.... kill some clock and take a high quality shots. With 1:23 left, Pikeville led 88-82. The game didn't feel out of reach yet. As they did the entire 2nd half, Pikeville made some big plays on offense and defense. As the final seconds ticked off the clock, the entire JC crowd couldn't believe what they had just saw. As joyous as the Pikeville fans were, the JC fans were just as stunned.

The final score of 95-84, IMO, is a good indication of how this game played out. Like I said earlier can't blame the refs or anybody else. JC played like the better team in the first 16 minutes of play but Pikeville was better in the last 16 minutes.

This game was a true high school regional championship game. The two best teams playing for a chance to go to the State Tournament. It was tough to see the JC seniors go out this way, a few bad minutes of play and a few mistakes changed the game and Pikeville was able to capitalize.

JC will be back, just need to re-assemble the pieces and take care of business when it counts. The past six seasons will be looked at as the Glory Days of Johnson Central boys basketball, but it's far from over. Four straight regional championships with one Elite 8 appearance and two straight regional runners-up is a feat the JC faithful would always be proud of. Names like Shane Hall, Kyle Gullett, Dalton Adkins, Braxton Blair, Slade McPeek, Josh Hitchcock, Tyler Pack, Patrick Rice, Truman Salyer, Mason Blair, Cole Crace & Austin Davis will always be looked at as some of the best talent to ever wear the Black & Gold. The senior class ended their career with a 96-37 record, winning the 57th District three times and the 15th Region twice.

Now Pikeville, go to Rupp and represent the 15th region. If you guys play like you did in the 2nd half at the Sweet 16, who knows what can happen. As much as I was looking forward to using a Sick Day next Wednesday, I'll just keep it on the books and save it for next time.

Great job to coach Justice. Just goes to show when you put God first everything else becomes first class! I still would rather see him in Blue! But, I love him anyway!
Good Luck to P-ville in the state tourney I will be watching and rooting for my 15th region champion like always no matter who represents! For 35 years I have been making this trip and have seen great games but none compares to 2010 when Mr. Basketball brought home the hardware from Rupp!! Everyone said it could not be done and they provided a community with pride and now go do the same for your Panthers!
Great Job Coach!
I will be praying for you as always!

How?

JC will still be good, but how good remains to be seen.

SV might be the same as this year, maybe.

Pikeville might be a lot better.

Floyd Central will be a threat with right coach.

Everyone else will be the same or significantly worse
#52
Pikeville made some nice adjustments, are well coached, and had different players step up each night.

Congrats.

Elijah Justice has resurrected the Pikeville program. His Panthers have dethroned the Kings of the 15th region. I see Pikeville taking back to back regions with him at the helm of the ship. He surrounded himself with some very knowledgeable people, ran the program the way a high school basketball program should be ran and it all paid off, hats off to who I would give credit to as "coach of the year" in the 15th.

Well said!

Congrats to Pikeville, those kids never gave up and showed true heart throughout the game.

On another note, without publicly calling anyone out by name, I just want to say how shocking it is that the mighty 57th didn't win the tourney. And one team from the mighty 57th didn't even win a game against the sad and weak 58th!
That super region though!

Congrats Panthers and everyone else on a successful season.

As weak of a group the 15th region drew at Rupp, and as good as both Pikeville and JC are, I believed either Pikeville and JC could realistically get to Saturday. Once you get to Saturday anything can happen. I most definitely still believe that. I am from Raceland but I will be at Rupp and will be cheering local teams on. Go Pikeville and Go Elliott/West Carter!
