Clay wins a close one. Key to the game was when Smith was switched to guard Broughton at the end of the 3rd quarter. Broughton was non existent rest of game only making one basket on a pick play where Smith fell down.
Wes wolfe was huge for CC tonight and Will Sexton had huge hustle plays all night. Smith also had a good game offensively but his lock down defense on Broughton is what won the game.
I thought Jeffers looked really well for NL and Broughton looked decent.... in all honesty for you north guys tell Broughton if he wants to take his game to the next level watch the game film of Smith guarding him and learn to play so Defense.

If North gets a transfer soon, they may be a little better.

This one a little closer than expected. Clay could not guard the 3 to save their lives. I agree, the press worked pretty well. Tigers have to hit free throws late to keep from these situations. I'll have to say though, North played about as good as they can. They held the ball for what, the last 1:30? Maybe more. I have no clue how that kid missed two bunnies.

Great game! Tournament atmosphere in December. Great showdown between Smith and Broughton. Big 3 by Farmer in the 4th. Broughton is a lights out shooter. Great play out of Sexton tonight. Felt like he was everywhere.

I could be wrong but I thought North Laurel was draining threes because Clay County came out in a triangle and two early. They were content with anyone, but Broughton taking threes and it almost cost them the game. Broughton and Smith are both very good players. I wouldn't be shocked to see these two in the region championship. North Laurel impressed me tonight.

I thought North played there A+ game . And I thought Clay played about a "B" game. I will say this Blake Smith was by far the best player on the floor tonight. And I think when it gets crunch time in March you will see him guard Broughton the whole game. Broughton can play no doubt about it, but he's a one way player and has trouble with smith's length and athleticism.
I thought Wolfe looked like the wolfe of old and Sexton was everywhere tonight. Farmer has got to get in better shape. I thought North got every call tonight so therr is no way they can complain about the refs. I look forward to the next 2 meetings with these 2. If North shoots the 3 the way they did tonight they will be tough to beat

I thought Clay was playing a 1-1-3 early when North was making 3 ' s . And then. 2-3 in the 3rd. And str8 man in 4th. Different ball game once they went man IMO.

It very well could have been a 1-1-3 that they played early. What ever it was I don't believe I would use it again. I agree Clay looked their best when they played man.

Well i made the drive over to Gunchester tonight and i got to see two really great games. The lady tigers pulled out a win in the first game with the game being closer than the final score. I then saw some really great players in the boys game. The Broughton kid can flat out shoot the rock but i dont think i saw him drive the ball at all. The wolf kid played well tonight but the key too the game was when clays coach put smith on broughton in the third quarter. From that point of the game on broughton only scored one basket. Ive watched alot of D1 players come out of the mountains and none of them has anything on the smith kid from clay. Now dont get me wrong im not saying he is King Kelly Coleman but the boy can play. He didnt play that great on offense but still had around 24 and pretty much shut broughton down the last quarter of the game. All and all it was a great game between two really good teams and i cant wait to see them play again. One more thing the good doctor called the score(check my old post)!

No one has mentioned yet that the FT count was 16-3 with north shooting zero in the second half. Rice got charged with two terrible fouls in the 4th and the refs called horrible make up calls on the other end. If anyone in the gym was not impressed with Broughton and Sizemore as an 8th grader they watched a different game than me. It was my first real look at Blake Smith and the kid is rea blessed with great athleticism and a nice 10-15 foot jumper. He will make a really nice player at the next level. His ball skills limit his level at this point he really needs to work on that but at his age they all have work to do. Sadly tho what I walked away from that game with was the thoughts of his poor sportsmanship. To be such a smart kid academically and good player that should never be talked about but the display tonight was disgraceful. As soon as a coach that's recruiting him seen him walk into another teams huddle repeatedly trust me they would move on. Make your own legacy on the floor a great one would never do that.

Tell 54 if he wants to play more that a shoulder block is for football or wrestling. I thought he decapitated Smith in the 1st quarter. Dirty play Imo.

Don't think there is anything wrong with what Blake done tonight. All about being a competitor. One of the best point guards in the league does it, Rondo. Come on maaaan. Get out of here with that.

If you thought the fouls was for Clay you have lost your mind. Also if your the great basketball mind you claim you are then you should know that when all you do is jack up 3's you don't go to the foul line. No one from North attacked the basket all night. And the whistle had blown to break the huddle so quit making excuses. Broughton can't score on Smith plain and SIMPLE. He's tried for 2 years and failed. And oh yeah in order to play at the next level you must be able to guard. And Broughton plays zero defense.

Taking advantage of kids? You idiot what do I have to gain? I'll help any kid I can or asks for it from whatever schools they play for. Yes I love Peyton bc he's a great kid, hard worker and plays at the same school I played at. He's never one time played on a team I've coached. People like you are funny bc you have no idea what you are talking about.
