There were only 3 boys from New York, a freshman and 2 sophomores. One really good player, 2 role players. The good player is 6'7" and the other two role players are 6'2" and 6'0". They will help Perry and the home grown kids better just step up if they won't some playing time.

Look for Hazard to pick up some of the good grade schooler's from the perry co. school system. Perry County parents are not gonna set back and watch kids from NY and Philly while their kids sit on the bench.

Already lost a lot this year at the grade school level from what I hear.

People thought KCC wouldn't make it out of the region when cordia got all of there transfers in but KCC still won the region. Just because you get transfers in don't guarantee you will win the region.

Well it is discouraging to the rest of the 14th region when you look at the facts. I tried to make a case for another team to possibly beat Knott, but the cold hard facts show 6 regional championships in the last 7 years, and even the year they didn't win it they were still region runner-up. Dynasty isn't something you get say a lot, but Knott is as close as you can get

I'm not very familiar with all of the 14th but what are the chances of a sleeper team meeting Knott in the finals rather than the usual suspects? I know there are a few coaching changes? Not sure why he did it, but Ryan Whitaker went to the land where coaches go to die, but he could possibly breathe life into Powell who has several seniors? Ryan is a good kid with a very high basketball IQ. Do they pack enough punch to knock perry or hazard or buckhorn off? If not them, is there any team that could pull off that big of a turnaround in the 14th?

I don't think that any team outside of the big three will be in the finals... and with the exception of one really good Buckhorn team... that's been the case for about a decade.
I mean it's survive and advance, so everyone always has a shot to knock someone off... but history indicates it will be up to Perry or Hazard.

And the fact that there ain't ten of em...
The fact that they ain't living in apartments owned by the school...
The fact that Perry Central ain't had anyone lawyer up and sue the KHSAA to play...
I'm sure I could think of a few more "differences".

PCC took a early trip home thanks to Buckhorn.

Evidently only one of these kids is capable of contributing and is going to try to play basketball.

I don't care who Knott County has either. I don't have a horse in that race. I dont have one in any race, I was just wondering why it keeps happening if it doesn't work for them. I also disagree that all teams recruit. It does seem as though all do though, due to most of the top teams having transfers that play quite a bit.

How would Cordia have done WITHOUT transfers?
How would Knott be doing WITHOUT transfers?
Would any of these teams be competing at the same level without kids that want to come there to play high level basketball?
If a kid wants to come to your school and play basketball... do you tell them to move back home and you don't want them?
I don't think these kids from New York are invested in playing basketball - just like the foreign exchange students from Hazard last year didn't get invested in playing basketball.

"Invested" is definitely the proper term to use describing the normal transfer/recruits here in East Ky. It seems that the transfers seem to only be working out for Knott because they are the only ones winning titles with them. Which btw, is the only reason they recruit in the first place. To win regional titles.

That is probably accurate. I hope Whitaker has some success so he can move on when something better comes along?

Knott is winning because they have a core group of kids that play will with each other and they have played since they were freshmen.
It's hard to recruit to beat them because you'll never be able to match the teamwork.
I've said it a million times and I'll say it a million more times though...
Knott is as beatable as any other of the big teams around here.
They've dropped games to Hazard or Perry every year during this run and Buckhorn and Breathitt have come up with wins against them a few times. Knott could have very well lost ANY of the games during the 14th Region tourney last year.
That being said... It's a testament to Knott's coaching and mental toughness to win all of those close games.

How about the fact that recruiting is illegal? Don't believe me? Ask Cordia!! And no, all teams DO NOT recruit. That excuse is normally given from a school that scandalously recruits year after year after year.

That's just your opinion. And even if it's true, at least it's a true representation of the school and their respective areas. Nowadays, it's difficult if not impossible to interpret just whom is representing what school.
And don't give me the argument about money!! Few folks have deeper pockets that the Whitaker family.

^ I'm pretty sure a 56th District All-Star team wouldn't be able to win the 14th.
And Buckhorn and Breathitt are mostly local kids if I'm not mistaken.
They are typically a cut under the big three... but I think Buckhorn will be formidable this year. They won 20 games last year and return pretty much everyone.

I believe losing Blair will hurt the team more than people realize. He posted fairly good numbers last year. Thoughts?

I think Buckhorn got enough contribution from everybody that losing a player to transfer will not break them by any means.
I think they've got a great coach, hard working kids and as long as they've got Peyton running the offense and setting the tone on defense they will be just fine.
Here was last year's roster
James Blair So.
Shannon Blank Fr.
Ryan Boggs So.
Dylan Cole Jr.
Peyton Cooper Jr.
Josh Crank So.
Caleb Estep Jr.
Joey Grove Sr.
Connor Hoskins So.
Jeff Young Jr.
Thomas Stidham So.
Richard Stidham Sr.
Daniel Hurley 8th
James Morris Jr.
Josh Noble Fr.
Ryan Noble Jr.
John Stidham So.
Nich Stidham 8th

Coach Noble will definitely get the best from this team. Looks like they have a lot of youth returning. Blair will be missed and they will have to fill the void. By the end of season, Buckhorn can't be overlooked.
