16th Region- Top 5 players in the region
#1
Who are the top 5 players in the 16th region?
#2
1. Ryne Callahan (Rowan County)
2. Nick Miller (Ashland)
3. Jair Jackson (Greenup)
4. Wilder Williams (Fleming)
5. Conner Greene (East)

I would put Jordan Perry, Larry Whelan, Conner Gauze, Bobby Anderson and Hunter Holbrook as my second five (no particular order).

This is a good list. A lot like I would have it based on those returning. Still want to wait and see once school starts if any other difference makers decide to enroll in the 16th region.

I am sure my list is not accurate but thats some of the kids i remember from last year. Who am i missing from the 16th?
#7
I think your list is just as good and has many of the same names as my list. The biggest thing is that the top three are probably set (for most people), but then there are a lot of players in the 16th who you could put in any order. Justin Graham should be in the talk for the top ten players in the region. The twins from Elliot (Griffith's), just keep seeming to get it done.

Not sure what the "wow" was for, because I'm not sure there are a lot of other options.

Jordan Perry from Morgan county will be pretty dominate in the 16th!
#9
Jackson is on these lists solely on athleticism and length, if he can develop any kind of ballhandling skills or a jumpshot whatsoever, look out 16th...

You might want to add Gage Hughes from Greenup County.

He had 22 points against Rowan County in the Region as an 8th grader.

Agreed with Jair Jackson! There is NO DOUBT that he is the best athlete in the 16th Region. He can jump through the roof! However, he can mostly only finish at the rim. If teams can body him, he can be limited. If he can develop a jump shot...he will be tough. Jordan Perry is always someone to reckoned with...great jumper...lots of experience. Gage Hughes is also a good young player. He can shoot the lights out when he is hot. However, I wouldn't put him in the top ten yet. One game can give you input into what that young man will become, but it doesn't mean he is there yet. He will be in the top ten soon, maybe even by the end of this year.

QUICK QUESTION: Is Conner Messer playing this year for Raceland? It just dawned on me he should be a senior this year.

Has Ashland again filled its cupboard with "transfers" or is Miller all they have?

When I saw them play this summer, their cupboards were bare! All they had was Nick! I had the opportunity to talk with Nick towards the end of the summer and it seems that nothing has come. That doesn't mean that they may not get some, but I sure haven't heard of anything.

After watching summer ball, Boyd's Logen Thovson will be very high on that list once the season starts....

When your deepest pocket retires and moves on, "transfers" become much harder to attract.

Gage Hughes is always welcome at Clark County.

He could join up with one of his former basketball teammates from Portsmouth, Ohio - Joshua (JJ) Johnson.

Do you have any info on who they got?

No just heard they got a couple

Well, there was nothing left to gleam from Rose Hill. Did they go back to Huntington Prep? Its got to be a lot harder for them to "attract" newcomers since the money retired from operating.

But, you can be sure that KHSAA won't bother to look into any "matriculations" to Ashland. If anyone raises a fuss about Ashland, KHSAA will merely sanction Fairview, Rose Hill, and Greenup County some more.

I have heard several conflicting stories about the Ashland area tranfers. I have heard Ashland got a couple new kids, Greenup got a new kid or two from the foreign exchange route, Boyd snagged one of Pike Centrals players, and Morgan got a couple more exchange players. Anyone know if any of this is true?
#23
The only story that I can verify to be true is Boyd County getting Pike Central's senior guard. I know that to be true. I have only heard of Greenup's haul of a big guy (Jair Jackson told my son that it was true). Everything else...I couldn't tell you if it is the truth or not. Nothing would surprise me!
#24
With all this "mining" going on where are the mine inspectors from KHSAA? Greenup County needs to be careful. They aren't a favorite of those on Executive Drive in Lexington. But, if Ashland has "enticed" a few transfer/recruits, it may make KHSAA so mad that they will punish Fairview and Rose Hill again.
#25
Guard from Pike Central will be a junior . Dad was moved to portsmouth on the railroad .

If he is that good, then they should have moved to Portsmouth and played at Portsmouth HS instead of Greenup County.

Portsmouth went to the Final Four in Ohio in 2011 and 2012. They have a good chance to go for the next few years with all of the talent that they have.
#27
He is at Boyd County !!!!
#28
I agree with goldenbucs pix!! Very nice!

ozzy72666 Wrote:He is at Boyd County !!!!

Even more reason to have lived and played at Portsmouth.

Good. Maybe Boyd County will quit being Ashland's lacky. Ashland has played them for the fool for many years and Boyd County's athletic department and administration have been too stupid to avoid it. Doubt it? Ask Ashlanders of their level of "respect" for Boyd County. Zero.
