Just curious, did both teams play their rotation? Not taking anything from Corbin, they're a good team but I was just wondering. Clay would have most likely been Smith, House, Sexton, Wolfe, and Farmer.

Yes. Williamsburg played well, Taylor was out because of an injury he got from an injury during the Clay Co. Game.

Clay has been there a long time. Corbin's latest run started in the late 80s. They also had a great run in the 30s and 40s.
Harlan and South Laurel have been the last 13th Region teams to be a contender statewide.

Whitley lost one kid and had there best year in a long time last year.
They should be the favorite in the 50th, although South and Corbin should be close behind.

One day, Whitley is the favorite and the next day it's Corbin.
Actually, I think it will be very close.
Those four in the 50th could be in any order, along with North and Harlan County.

Not to mention the fact most of there team was very young last year 8th graders, fresh, and sophomores. Corbin's number one hands down. Then Williamsburg second specially with only losing one starter and having the Massey kid transfer in almost pushes them to number one. Only reason why not is because Corbin's coach is the best in the district by a really really really really BIG LONG SHOT! Whitley and South are behind those two I wouldn't say by a lot but there is a gap.

Corbin has a solid starting five but they don't really have a lot of experience beyond that. I think they are probably the slight favorite, due in large part because of the program Pietrowski has established, but it's close. Williamsburg had a very talented starting five. South is very dangerous, depending on how the chemistry works and who is there. Whitley was the biggest surprise in the region last year and brings back just about everyone. You could make a case for any of them.

How could you say Corbin is number one hands down?
This same Whitley team beat Corbin last year and lost one player, who wasn't anywhere near there best player. Just a role player.
They return 3 seniors and 5 juniors. Corbin beat them by 11 at home, Whitley then beat Corbin by 11 at home, and then Corbin beat Whitley by 2 in the first round of district AT Corbin.
How could Whitley be that far behind Corbin? Corbin lost 4 seniors that included Goins, Shelton, and Waddle.
Coach P is the best coach in the region. Theres no question in my mind, but to say Corbin is the favorite is highly premature IMO.
Don't let my nagging HDE fool you, he knows im just messing with him for old times sake, he is a 100% correct in his assessment above.

Its VERY likely that Wburg and Whitley could be the two teams that come out of that district together for the first time that I ever recall! Of course it may not happen, and it is VERY even, but there are no favorites, and if I had to pick one, I would pick Whitley and Wburg over Corbin and South at this point.

Knox was a sophomore team two years ago that lost to a pretty good North Laurel squad, so I don't think you can really hold that one against them.
There's no doubt they should have gone farther last year, but I still don't think you can count them out because they've struggled in the regional tournament the past few years.

I see why people say that though, and the only way they can prove them wrong is to win more postseason games.

Harlan County is in the mix as far as a top five team. They beat Whitley two out of three and played Corbin tough at Corbin before Tyler Miller was back in action. Zach Caldwell also wasn't there, since he's with football all summer.

You're probably talking about head to head.... considering that in the four years that Marcum has been at Clay, that Corbin has been considered rebuilding three of those - I think it minimizes that record (which by the way I think is 4-1 Marcum). Harlan lost to Pleasure Ridge Park in the 1995 state semifinals. I believe they came into the season ranked No. 1 in the state.

I'm a Clay County fan and even I agree with this. There's no denying Petrowski is the best coach in the region. Look at what he does with what he has got. That's not a knock on Marcum who has done a good job but a compliment to Petrowski.

Coach P is the best in the region, I don't believe that's debatable right now. I would put Marcum 3rd-4th, really has just begun his career although it be impressive. As for the difference between Harlan County and Harlan, I don't mean any disrespect but only people from Harlan County (in general) differentiate the two. Everyone else just says Harlan and we are referring to the county school. Many people outside that county will say Harlan City or something along those lines to refer to the other. It's one of a few places were the city and county have the same name.

It should be against the law for a county to be named the same thing as the city within it.
