Whitley Co 2013
#1
Any thoughts on the schedule and returning players.
#2
Madison Southern Away
Morristown TN Away
Rockcastle County Home
Clay County Home
Knox Central Away
Bell County Home
Boyle County Away

Harlan County Home
Letcher County Home
Perry Central Away

IMHO, 6-4 or 7-3 would be a good year. I can see a second place finish in the district and competing with Harlan County if the lines develop this offseason.
#3
Morristown East would be a win. West would be a loss. Which one will they play the first year?
#4
Has anyone heard how Austin Ysidro's shoulder is doing? Is he throwing yet?
#5

It is West.
Sorry, didnt see your post.
#8
Black sure isnt scared of playing anyone.
Arguably the toughest schedule in the mountains for the 5th or 6th year in a row.
#9
West will be a good measuring stick.
Starting two games on the road will be tough, but I dont know if West is as tough as they were last year when they beat Harlan County.

If Whitley can come out of Morristown with a win, followed by beating Harris and Madison Southern on the road, it sets up a nice matchup with Bell, where IMO, Whitley should be the favorite at home this year.
They could start out 3-0 or 0-3, but if they do get lucky enough to start out 3-0, they could get Harlan County at home while being undefeated, which would be a huge matchup.

All depends on how bad they want it. Talents there, just a little young, but they are experienced. If they stick together they should be fine.
#10
Offensively I would agree that there is a fair amount talent but defensively they lost a ton of talent that will be hard to replace. Black will have to juggle his talent on both sides of the ball to fill the hole left on defense by the departure of the three best defensive players they had last year.

Ysidro is doing well, playing two sports this spring, baseball and track. His dad was the track coach for many years and is having him run to get better for football.

This team will be capable of scoring points, thats for sure, im just not sure they will be able to stop the other team.

Your right about the defense. Biggest concern has to be the lines coming into the season.
#12
Most of the kids playing line played alot last year. So i believe the biggest concern will be the DBs.

I really think DB's will be fine. BIG holes to fill will be LB with the lose of Bryant and Jackson top 2 tacklers. DE Vanover 3rd letting tackler and D lineman Fulton.

The entire defense will need a makeover.
Who will we see sliding over into that linebacker spot?
Ive got my thoughts, curious of others ideals.
#15
Probally #69 Brandon Lawson @ MLB John Thomas @ Tilmans spot if he can stay focused on the task at hand. We got a couple of boys that will be frosh that maybe able to help out . Then you the big Roberts kid and the Philpot boy is a monster.

It could very well happen, and i hope it does just as you said.
We cant have Ysidro and Mills playing Linebacker next year if we want to be successful.
I know theyll see playing time on defense, but if we want to win games they need to be on the offensive side of the ball and only on the offensive side of the ball.
#17
I agree but they will be playing both ways .Maybe not every down but most of the time . Mills will be returning punts and kickoffs . We should have a strong kicking game .I believe we cold have a 7-3 year.

Whitley does play a hard schedule but it may not be the toughest. I have read who Harlan co plays and it seems tough

Since both are in same dist compare non dist teams

Harlan Co
Bell
Knox
Clay
Johnson Cent
Belfry
Madison Cent
Greenville Tn

Whitley Co
Bell
Knox
Clay
Madison Southern
Morristown West
Boyle
Rockcastle

So throw out Knox, clay, bell since they are common opponents and then who is harder of the four.

Belfry, Greenville, Johnson Cent, Madison Central
or
Madison Southern, Morristown West, Rockcastle, Boyle

Regardless of opinions, both teams are playing a tough schedule that no one in mountains can touch.

Im not arguing with that opinion.
Harlan County plays a tough schedule as well.
Im thinking more about the past years since around the 2008 season Whitley has played state powers almost on a annual basis. Theyve played Lex Cath, Boyle, Bell, Belfry, and a whole host of other notable teams during those years.
However, i do think Morristown West is better than Greenville, Boyle better than Belfry, and Madison Southern is pretty much even with Central, or atleast have been the past couple of seasons while Central has been really down, and Johnson is better than Rock i would think.

Its paid off in the playoffs a couple of times but absoloutly destroyed morale in other years.
I think its about right on par for the next two years. Whitley will still have a realitively young team this year, but should still be really good. Next year, as these players get one year older and the entire backfield and line has matured to upper classmen, I think theyll take that district crown back.

Good observation.

I think this year Boyle may be down and it may be a toss up between them and Belfry

Madison Southern will have the best player but Madison Central should have more players that are over all better than MS has. Just a numbers game.

I looked up Greenville and they are pretty good, it may also be a toss up with Morristown West, but West is better than East ACCORDING TO SOME.

Johnson cent is a little down, but so is rock castle and I think JC is better than Rockcastle.

Still either way both teams have it tough.

Be nice if Corbin played both teams
#21
Both good non league schedules. JC is WAY better than Rockcastle though.

If you're referring to Morristown East in that ACCORDING TO SOME statement then it should be according to ALL. West is head and shoulders better. As far as them being better than Greeneville, I am pretty sure over the past two seasons Greeneville is 0-2 against MW but all have been close games. 14-10 and 31-28.

Both are tough schedules. Does it really matter which one is tougher?

It doesnt but you cant blame football starved guys from discussing any topic they can.
Im glad all these roundball games are over. Just another off season distraction.

Its getting closer....

If we do go 7-3, I would have to think of that as a very successful year with the schedule.
An 8-2 season would be remarkable.

Don't be hating on the round ball!!

But, I gotta admit, I always outfit my car for football season just as soon as we get back from vacation...and that's CLOSE!

Excited for football to begin!!!

Its almost time Granny!

I would not count rock as a win yet the may be down from what they have been but they are far from being dead, they are several good players on this team, this will be a good game
#28
We really cant count no one as a win yet. With all the questions we have across the board.
#29
Ever since 2011, ive been waiting for the 2014 season.
I watched the kids that are about to be sophomores and juniors mature.
Even coached some of them in there younger elementary days.

Ive always thought the 2012 and 2013 seasons would be building block seasons for big success in 2014, but im not sure it cant happen this year.
There are a lot of question, but some are already getting answered. There are some hardworking kids hitting the weights when they really dont have to.
We'll see how bad they want it while in the dead period. Thats where a lot of kids get an advantage over others. If it werent for Harlan County being so good last year and no doubt this year, I think Whitley could really do some damage.
HC should be the favorite in the region, and rightfully so, but Whitley will be better than last year if the questions on the line get answered. HC embarrassed Whitley up front last year. It wasnt pretty at all.

There will be 10 or 11 seniors on this team, with around 15 or 16 juniors. Even heard weve picked up one or two that didnt play last year. Should have around 16 or 17 sophomores and if all or most of the 8th graders come out for freshmen ball, your looking at well over 20.

I think Whitley will dress in the 55-60 range, and next year i think that number will increase to 65-70.

this years team will surprise people
