Is Chuck Smith interested in the Ashland job?
#1
Any truth to this?
#2
Dont know but have heard it too and Lutz but Lutz is past his prime!!
#3
Rumors are flying wild and you can take everything you hear with a grain of salt, but Matney would take the job if offered but will never happen. Heard Cov-Caths H.C. might have interest in the Cats job too.
#4
I don't know why he would leave Cov Cath for Ashland and I don't think matney would be offered the job. Too much bad blood there.
#5
My guess on Cov-Caths coach would be get away from Highlands in his district and win 1 or 2. On Matney, he would take the job if offered but we all no thats not going to happen. Way to much dislike for him!!!!
#6
Why would Matney Leave JC?
#7
Tony Love will be next coach if he wants it.
#8
Chuck Smith is the Phil Jackson of Kentucky High School Football. His name is mentioned for every job.

Don't be surprised to see the committee travel out of state to find a new coach.

What makes you think Coach Matney wants to take a pay cut and move to a program with the cabinets empty? I believe JC had won 4 out of the last 5 games against Ashland. In addition, Ashland football team looks like it’s going to go thought a few lean years. No sure what you are drinking but it must be strong.

Tony Love had earned the job and needs to be given a chance.

From my understand matney desperately wanted the job when hart was hired. That was 10 years ago though and he now realizes what a perfect fit he is at JC idk why his name even keeps coming up. The thread was to ask about chuck smith. We all know coach matney isn't going anywhere.

I can't speak for Matney, but I don't think he'd leave JC for Ashland.

My father works with a man who is a very very close friend of Matney and he told my Dad if offered, Matney would take the job. Wont happen but just telling what I hear. As for Ashland being down, you do know their J.V. Team went undefeated this past season and have been for the past 3 years so I wouldnt worry about the Tomcats not having players because they will be better in 13 then last year!!!!!!!!!

I don't take a lot of stock in JV games because it depends on depth. Raceland, Russell,Greenup...etc has had to start a lot of lower class men because of lack of numbers who on any other team would have had to have played JV these past years.

It looks like the Devils should of taken stock in what several of the local JV teams were doing over the last few years, then maybe they would have been a little more competitive.

While I do believe you must look at the success of all levels below varsity with a bit of skepticism, it probably can be the most relative in comparing programs. The more quality programs tend to be able to field higher quality JV teams in my mind because this is the first level where you begin to combine classes. This is when , as DevilWatcher point out, that depth begins to be revealed and typically the one player who may have been dominate in 7,8 and 9th grade games must now compete with older and equally developed players. This more like what they will be competing with/against for the remainder of high school.

The programs who routinely rely on Freshmen to field JV teams are often smaller schools who simply lack the numbers or large school with weaker programs. Smaller schools have had to do this for ever and often JV success can be skewed and not a direct reflection of the program or the future, but at larger schools it is often a pretty reliable indicator of what the future looks like.

Also, a younger player who may be playing varsity at one program could quite possibly not be as good as a JV player at a neighboring program.

I know this has nothing to do with Chuck Smith considering a high school coaching job but just my thoughts on the previous comment.

I believe you said it better than me. I was not making an attack on any one schools JV teams at all but JV games in general. There are no titles...no awards and it is lucky to be even mentioned in a paper but it is a great way to find out who a team can bring up to Varsity in a pinch or develop a kid at defensive end who has never played the position. Teams that are thinned out must use the lot of their better sophs on Varsity. I still stand behind my statement though.

My guess is Chuck Smith will take the Paul Lawrence Dunbar job or maybe Warren East. But If i was guessing I would say Dunbar and before its over he may end up back at Boyle County.

I have heard tony love,Luke salmons, Bob Lutz,Chad Tackett and Chuck Smith all have interest in the Job.

Can Chuck Smith coach anywhere next season? I heard his contract with UK states that he will receive a buyout unless he gets another coaching job. Does this include high school, especially if they are under the same state education system?

I would be willing to bet this doesn't include high school. Probably only college jobs.

Found out today that Ashland indeed has talked to J.C. Head Coach about their vacant H.C position. Do not know how it went or if he was offered the job!!!

Johnson Central!!!!

Would be interesting if true. I just don't see this happening unless they throw the farm at him.

I really hope Jim matney wasn't offered the job. I want to beat him not hire him. Not to mention he has just rubbed to many of the ashland faithful the wrong way.

One thing i can assure you is a fact that coach Matney has a lot of respect for the Ashland football program. And another thing that is a fact.Coach Matney is very happy where he is at.Hope that answers any questions.
