They are reporting that Sandy will be dumping anywhere from 4-12 inches of snow on eastern Kentucky, depending on where you're at.

This is the earliest map from Jim Caldwell at WYMT. The majority of the snow will be on Tuesday and Wednesday. From what I am hearing it is supposed to snow for 48 hours straight and most likely these snow total predictions will increase. I have heard that some areas of West Virginia may get up to 5 feet of snow and I have seen some maps late tonight that are already showing up to 2 feet possible in Pike County.

Revised forecast just in; higher elevations in Harlan County to get 2 feet. Problem is MOST areas in Harlan County are higher elevations!!

WYMT says the end times are coming, while the weather channel only says 1-3 inches maybe? I don't think anyone has a clue what's going to happen. nicker: Regardless, every grocery store in EKY will be empty by this evening.

It is now showing Pikeville, to be around 1 inch, Jenkins, 3 to 7 and Elkhorn City to be getting 2 to 5 inches. It is giving near to nothing where I live, in Paintsville.

Tomorrow is when the biggest part of it is supposed to fall. Radar is showing that it is already snowing in parts of Harlan Co, Letcher Co, Pike Co, Lee Co VA, and Wise Co VA.

In the Washington, DC, area Metro train and bus service has been suspended. All federal offices have been closed, except for a few "essential" personnel. Many businesses have also closed. It has been raining steadily since late last night but the wind has been picking up. The heavy rain won't start until tonight.

There is a good chance that everything will be closed tomorrow because of flooded streets. The traffic in this area is the worst in the country and without the Metro running and flooded streets, it is almost impossible to get around.

Well I drove in from Lexington this morning and saw NO snow anywhere. The wind nearly took me off I-75, but only rain.

About 3 miles north of where I am now, there's a couple of inches. Then, ten miles father north is about 6" and on the mountain I hear there's a nearly two feet....that's 20 miles north of me.

I have not ventured outdoors since the storm hit but there is not much too see in this area. Sandy moved faster than expected, so the DC area did not get hit as hard as expected. We received lots of rain and lost our power for about 30 seconds, but I don't think that wind gusts topped 50 mph. A little over 100,000 people lost their power in northern Virginia, which was far fewer than lost it in the last the last major thunderstorm. Everything will probably be back to normal here on Wednesday, assuming that the trains resume operation.
