wildone89 Wrote:Funny eh? What you are saying is very true and if things don't change they will not even be 1 single a school in this county. Yeah that's real funny big buy! If you want to talk numbers Harlan county is better off numbers wise than most county schools in eastern ky. Bell co being the worst as far as losing pop. You must only go about an hour down the road to must most of them in Laurel co. Times are tough all the way around for everyone and I don't think it's a bit funny or lol! I pray something will change for the good every night so men as myself can feed their families and hope you would do the same? As far as Only one school and it being single a it would still be HC. You think the state would fork over 15 million dollars for a 60 plus million dollar school and close it down before Harlan ind. you are badly mistaken! Think about that and see if it's lol?
As far as what you said about HHS closing before HC,I believe HHS will become a private school before it ever closes. Maybe a private Christian school. There is enough money in and from alumni to never see it completely gone. Because of the hatred spurned by the county for the city school and the fact that HHS is a long time institution in this county there are many families that would never send their children there. HHS has lasted since there was 9 or 10 high schools in this county and now there's only more to out last. But,whether coal comes back or not there will always be a need for a county school,so,I don't see either school ever going anywhere. Just scaling way down. Look at it this way, wildone, the county will be the nicest 1A school in the state. There will be tumble weeds rolling down the halls but it will still be nice. Just maybe HHS will become like Lex. Christian or something. Who knows? Just a thought.

I look for it to be close to 50/50. I think harlan will be in several close games which will increase running plays. You had said 75/25 earlier post now you saying 66/33 basically.

Passed 31 times net 224 yards

Obviously thought you were saying check stats from last year. I really don't agree with 2 to 1, unless they are way behind, but even way behind at Williamsburg (as Cherokee said), they stayed near 50/50.
Just want to repeat, if DeMarcus stays healthy, watch out.

both harlan teams are really.good and top 10 talents in each ones class, wouldnt it be something if both harlan teams won the state title? A very happy county in which has had heart ache the past couple months with the mine layoffs

As bad as things have been the last few months, you are correct, that would make a lot of sad people something to cheer about! Hopefully before the state finals coal with have an upturn and people can get back to work and then have a couple of things to cheer about:Cheerlead

I still believe the key to the Dragons will be the Morris kid. I believe he needs 15+ touches per game for them to make a deep run this year.

I think Morris could have a breakout season, but there are about 5 others that could also. Hopefully if one is off another fill the gap.

The Overbay kid, not a lot of talk about him yet this year. He was rated one of the top overall players at one time in his class. Is he playing this year for Harlan?

Yes he's playing and may get some time at tightend. That will add another big body to the line. We need that.

Anybody know what the defense is looking like?
All this talk of a highpowered offensive attack, but you cant win when the other team is putting up50 on ya lol
A complete run down would be nice

I've heard they are installing a new defensive set but I've not seen it yet. But I've not been to practice in a few days.

I'm not saying Harlan High School will close, but I wouldn't count on it becoming a private school. Kentucky has lost about 500 high schools since the 1930s. Not one of them that I know of has turned into a private school.
If there was a merger, the school buildings and everything else would become the property of the county district. It would be a whole lot cheaper for the people who support HHS to keep the district afloat than it would be to start an entirely new private school. It would cost millions to buy the school and land and football field and baseball field and tennis courts, etc...

Meet the Dragons nite was a success. The team looked great. A nice crowd for a rainy evening. The gridorama against Bell Co. Is next on the list. Can't wait to see that passing game.

My thoughts were if coal doesn't rebound somewhat we ALL are in trouble and it doesn't matter if you are a bear or a lizard. Never said I wanted Harlan ind. to close, just the opposite and the county to thrive! But it's hard to tell someone like backwoods ( because he knows it all) anything. The facts are if we keep at the pace we are on( that's Harlan county as a whole) they will be one small, very small county school at rosspoint in a very large building period!

It is hard to tell someone like me that when you take every oppurtunity to down the school that you can get. I feel that when you down our school, like you do,you are just being genuine wildone. The bible says that what comes out of your mouth comes out of your heart. I believe that goes for typing fingers also.

Harlan apparently has two additions joining the team in the near future. The Gambell kid has returned from basic training and the new transfer Cory Chorak from HC. Gambell started defensive last season and was suspended because of grades. Apparently he has that straightened out. Chorak Ran for 350 yds as a freshman for HC and I'm not sure how many he had last season but I hear he would have been getting plenty of playing time this season had he have came out for the team. These two additions should give the Dragons more depth and extra weapons offensively and defensively. The Dragon's are gonna have alot of go to backs. At least 5 that could be a threat to score on any play. Anyone have any info on this, like what grade these kids are in,or is it true at all? You can't be too sure about what you hear these day's especially concerning H.S. football. Last season it seemed that we were losing player's left and right and this season it's the opposite.

Gambrel, I can't speak on, but transferring can be a lengthy process. Then, considering the other kid quit at HC before the season began, he'll have to have 5 practices in shorts, three in shoulder pads, then 5 days in pads before he hits another team. Add all that together and that equals a long time.

I believe they ran about 40 and passed about 10 against Pikeville. I'm still hiding and watching!

Harlan will run the ball about 3 or 4 to 1 this season. Depends on the defense. Having an offensive line and 3,soon to be 4 or 5 backs, that can score on any play has brought this about. Now we really have a run game that can set up the pass. David Allen and Eric Young are great reciever's who, if the DB's cheat up for the run,can and will burn them.

Untill harlan can beat Hazard they still second in the district and Pikeville is down this year not a very good club the panthers.

Why? Because Harlan beat them? Pikeville is better than you think. Sure they will have a tough time ahead with the schedule they have. What 1A team wouldn't with that schedule. but they will be a tough team to beat in the playoffs. Guaranteed.

Who are the 5 backs who can go to the house at any time? I can think of maybe 3, but who are the others?

Bloody Harlan Wrote:Who are the 5 backs who can go to the house at any time? I can think of maybe 3, but who are the others?
Chorak and Gambrell. Both have dropped in weight and have gotten faster. Gambrell has recently returned from Army basic training in GA. and has dropped about 15 or 20lbs in weight to about 180lbs. The others are Morris,Logan and Williams. It will be a couple games before Chorak and Gambrel are eligible but they both will deffinately help out offensively and defensively. I think Chorak is a JR but I'm not sure what class Gambrell is in. At least a JR. He started most of the year on defense and a couple of games at tailback last year. Both are ex-county players who have moved and transfered.
