Here is the schedule for the 2007 Paintsville Tiger Hoops Classic:

SESSION #1 Thursday Dec. 20th

Boyd Co. -vs- Tates Creek @ 6:00 pm
Scott, WV -vs- Paintsville @ 7:30 pm

SESSION #2 Friday Dec. 21st

Hazard -vs- Sheldon Clark @ 6:00 pm
Tates Creek -vs- Paintsville @ 7:30 pm
North Stafford, VA -vs- Scott, WV @ 9:00 pm

SESSION #3 Saturday Dec. 22nd

Sheldon Clark -vs- Scott, WV @ 10:30 am
Tolsia, WV -vs- Paintsville @ Noon
South Charleston, WV -vs- North Stafford, VA @ 1:30 pm

No winner? Is it gonna be more like a round robin tourney? Right?
The finals two years ago between Paintsville and Apollo was one of the best games I have ever seen.

I see 8 different teams on the schedule. More than likely the finances for this tourney was unreal. Paying teams rooms and meals can strain any tournament budget. Bigger isn't always better with tournaments. 5/3 classic at Lex cath is ridiculous. Way too many teams and games to keep up with.

Yeah Ok, I can see 8 now. Yeah I'd say you are right. Sponsorship money is no doubt tight right now.

Heck, It seems like everybody and their brother are having tournys now. I'm surprised nyone can fill a 6 team tourny or find enough officials.

Also I think with the large format teams that make it to the finals had to count the tourny as 3 games as opposed to just 2. Or something along those lines...maybe someone could explain this a little better.

Not quite the turn out like in years past. I think Hazard might push for the whole title or maybe Tates Creek.

Am I reading it right? There is no East, West, etc.brackets as last year. No semis or finals...is that right? Not a problem just trying to understand what format they are using.

It has been moved from after Christmas as it had been, to befor Christmas, to accomodate Paintsville playing in the 5/3. IMO, this made it difficult to get the 16 teams and 4 daysit had previously required, in befor Santa arrives. Not sure if this is the case though, just my best guess.

Tournament field down from recent years, but still should be fun to watch. The hoops classic has had some exciting games in the past, and i expect the same this year

Seems like everybody and their brother has a holiday tournament now. Very hard to get local teams to come in and play. Tough to get money to help fund tournaments due to everyone already helping with these new tournaments.
And to answer your question Watchful Eye, no there will be no winner this year or brackets. Just 3 days of good basketball. The tourney was moved up to the week before Christmas, rather than the 27th. This was because PHS got in the 5/3 Bank Classic this year. Should be a great event though. I can't wait. Always one of my favorite times of year.

I would have liked to seen Tates Creek vs. South Charleston

by the way, i'm pretty sure this is the same South Charleston team that only lost one senior from the team that played pretty close with Huntington last year (Mayo, Patterson, & Early's team)

I would've liked to have seen that too, but North Stafford, VA is a very athletic team. Still should be a great game.
