Bullitt East Open
#1
Bullitt East is open and job is posted.
#2
What happened here, had one of the best young coaches there?
#3
Not really sure. Just know the job is open. Pretty good team coming back next year for whoever gets the gig.
#4
Seems like they were in the finals a few years back.
#5
'08. Lost to Bell County in 4A finals.
#6
This opening is so odd. Not a word coming on it from anywhere.
#7
I know Coach Atchley talked to Lafayette before he left. He had a history there so it wasn't that unusual. He hasn't been announced anywhere though. Some thought he might be heading to LexCath. But not sure why it hasn't been announced yet if he's been hired somewhere else.
#8
The Bullitt County paper says he was relieved of his duties and asking a friend says he was fired as a coach and teacher, not sure of any other details.

Bullitt East had some good seasons, but don’t know how attractive the job is while they are 6A.

I don't know anything about why he was let go. It's going to be tough being in Male's district, that's for sure. But they aren't leaving 6A anytime soon. Heard there is over 500 ninth graders this year. School will be over 2000 students in a few short years. If you don't like losing to Male every year, I guess your only option is to work harder and figure out how to beat them. After next year they will redistrict and maybe move out of Male's district, but I doubt it.

That’s kind of my point. Not sure how many with head coaching experience go after that job. Several down seasons in a row, now going on 4th HC since 2015. Ran off a HC who went to a state title game and then went and won 2 state championships somewhere else.

Tough to win in 6A. Talented offense but seems like a lot of those kids will be seniors next year what’s left after that?

They have a great Sr. class next year but things aren't terrible after that. Starting to pull some pretty good players. They have been fundamentally better the last couple of years. The youth system is in much better shape than it has been. Don't know what happened with Doug Preston but I don't think it's a terrible job.

Looking at the one sentence I thought for a moment you were talking about Corbin.  Undecided

Had had a pretty good team last year.

Add to that the fact the next District alignment could be worse than just Male and many quality coaches may stay away from this job.

Any news on who some of the candidates are?

When are interviews completed?

I still think this is a good job. Sure the 6A competition is strong but you can't shrink from the competition.

Interviews this week is my understanding. Heard 8-10 applicants. A couple of currents assistants but not sure who else. Pretty quite in Mt. Washington. New press box a couple of years ago, new scoreboard this past season. Former Boyle OC is current principal who would like to get program back up there. I've met several players and they're a good bunch. Lot's of work to do but seem to going in right direction.

Interesting that Bullitt East hasn't had more consistent success over the years. Obviously, they aren't going to regularly beat the big private schools in Louisville consistently but seems like they have had some good coaches come through over the years. Good luck on the coaching hire and hope they find what they are looking for!

The had some success when they were 2A/3A in the old 4 class system.

From my understanding there’s been a long stretch where not much has been invested in the program. 6A program with growing numbers but still the same locker room when they were 2A.

Principal is a football guy, but how much longer before he retires? And no guarantee the next person is supportive of growing program.  Several factors like these add up and thats why I don’t think you’re seeing a lot of interest in this job.

I believe you may be on to something with that analysis! There's a lot of schools out there that only act like they want a quality football program when it's convenient without providing the resources it takes to achieve a high quality program. It's got to be important to the school culture and community to make it happen. Any change in administration at some places can completely undo any success or momentum they have going. Hopefully they can get it going! I know I am sure pulling for them.

Coach Kendrick played at Boyle County and then Lindsey Wilson for 4 years. He began his coaching career at Southwestern with Larry French and current Russell County OC Steven French and current Madison Central DC William Blair. He moved from Southwestern to Bullitt East when Coach Atchley moved to Bullitt East from LCA. Good Luck Coach.
