Corbin says "yes" to package alcohol sales
A majority of Corbin's voters voted "yes" in Tuesdays alcohol election, clearing the way for package liquor sales in that city.
The total vote between the Knox and Whitley county portions of the city were 887 "yes" and 789 "no."

I can honestly say im surprised.
I also heard the vote was more like 1600 to 1400 on the radio earlier so i dont know what these numbers are but either way, a very close race.
Finally if a person wants to buy a case of beer he doesnt have to drive 30 miles away.
London vote is coming up.
You can bet your bank it will pass now that Corbin has. Theres no way they'll let Corbin pass them up.
Didnt see this one coming...

Two things will CERTAINLY happen after this vote:
1. London will got super-wet, lol.
2. Jelico, TN will essentially cease to exist in the minds of Kentuckians.
I wonder if this or the London vote will effect/affect the Rockcastle County/Mt. Vernon vote?

You would think it would be somewhat of a domino effect but IDK.
I know London will now go wet, but Mt Vernon and Somerset are still up in the air.
IDK if Somerset is even having a vote, but they need to.
I do know that the Krogers in corbin are already laid out to stock alcohol and will be the first ones with it.
If a man had enough money to open a liquor store around here than he'd get rich if a bunch of others didnt.
And as for your comment on Jellico, they will pretty much be dead to the world.
I wouldnt be suprised if it put the beer places in jellico out of business as people from KY are going to get it in Corbin and people in Jellico will just buy it up here now when there here because its much cheaper.
Also, in TN its state law that a store cant sale Beer and Liquor together while here in KY you can. You cant buy Liqour in Jellico even though its wet because they have to vote for two different things, while here in KY your okay.

Is London wet in their restaurants? Seems like I remember getting beer at Shiloh's. Which is a very good steakhouse, btw.

Yup, they were just like Corbin was, they can sale alcohol in there resteraunts as long as they get 70% of there profit from food sales.
Shilohs IMO is the best resteraunt around here. Im just hoping we can get a few bar and grills with good steaks around here to open up now that they can only be bars if they want to.

Maybe this will open up some things, with all the tourism you have.

Corbin is a great place for tourism, if they would actually use it.
From the 1st KFC to Cumberlan Falls among many other things, there are a bunch of things that could be used for great tourism.
Under the new vote, stores will only have to derive 50% of there profits from food sales and there are going to be 3 permits for the city to give out to liqour stores only, and a unlimited number of permits for grocery stores, convienent stores.
Me personally im glad it passed and now the city commision has 60 days to come up with a ordinance for alcohol.
Im glad it passed, but one thing i would like to see is resteraunts selling beer, not bars serving food.
If we can keep bars out than everything should be fine, and i believe thats the way its going to be. I also like the fact that only 3 liquor stores will be permitted to open instead of having one at every corner. Talk about getting rich quick if you got lucky enough to nab one of those permits.

Congrats to Corbin. I think wet/dry elections make liars out of self proclaimed Christians who are anti-alcohol sales. They claim that there will be more alcoholics as sales will magically create drinkers. People who drink are going to drink regardless and now they will not have to travel as far to get it. The Pro-Dry people get on television discussing the evils of alcohol and trying to force people to live how they perceive they should live, all the while, they are puffing on a big cig to feed their nicotine habit. My understanding is Jesus drunk wine but I didn't know he smoked Marlboros.

We had the same thing going on in Manchester. I am a Christian and in my opinion legal alchohol sales is not a Biblical subject. Being a drunkard, yes. The legal sale of, no.

They voted on making Estill Co. moist a couple of years back and of course it didn't pass. I have mixed views about it but I will say look at towns with/without alcohol sales and you will see big difference.

The difference I was referring to was more businesses, etc...may not be with larger towns but smaller towns I have visited which do not offer alcohol sales seems to be idle and not growing.
