Ashland clinches #1 seed in the 64th District tournament, also guaranteeing a berth in the 16th Region tournament. #2 Fairview will meet #3 Boyd Co. in the 64th semifinal, with the winner playing Ashland in the final. I believe the 64th tournament will be at Rose Hill, who doesn't even get to play in it.

=====

Ashland (16-6) at Rose Hill (0-12) -- Sat 2/6 7:30pm
Fairview (16-4) vs. Rose Hill (0-12) -- Fri 2/5 7:30pm

I thought it was a good game to watch, with some excellent effort by both teams. Fairview has excellent talent, but they really need to use the bench. Surprised to see Jackson not start tonight, but I guess he'll be back in the lineup for Fairview soon. I think the Gunter kid has really improved since last season. He has really worked hard, and it shows.

We looked like we had some real intensity again. Nice game, nice win.

As for the Districts, I think Rose Hill is the host, but I don't think it will be played at Rose Hill. I may be wrong, but I think that's correct.

As long as it's not at Fairview. That gym's just too small. Fairview and Boyd should trade gyms.

.. and yes, it was a great game to watch. Ended up sitting next to Cody Withrow's mom, and she made it even more fun as crazy as she was going haha

I think the boys play at Boyd Co & the girls play at Rose Hill

Yeah, I think you are correct, the boys will be played at Boyd... too small gym as well.

Congrats Ashland. Boy, this 16th region sure has been an exciting one this year.

Rose Hill isn't eligible for post season play. I suppose that their gym is eligible on the other hand.
#7
The boys are ineligible for post season at Rose Hill, the girls team is however allowed to participate in post season play.

good win for Ashland ~ congrats ~

Very impressive win. I thought that Fairview was the best team in the 16th. Where will the 16th Region be played? Could go a long way in deciding who comes out of that Region.

The Rose Hill girls are allowed to participate in the districts, the boys however are ineligible. Regionals will be played at Morehead State University.

I thought Ashland's defensive effort was much better last night, and was more like what we saw out of them in early season. Swift did well making a clutch trey to stop a run by Fairview as well as some very important rebounds. Many times its' not talked about but when the defense is active, ball tips result in quick recovery effort by the ball handler that very often results in a turn over a different player (for the defense) is able to get his hands on. Same thing is true for rebounds.

What would the 'Squid of Steel' have to say about the defensive side of the ball last night? I felt like we would come out of the (slump?) against the Eagles. If indeed the intensity is back, Ashland will bring that to the rest of their games this year and it will be good to see.

The Squid of Steel thought the defensive effort was much better last night than it has been for the last three or four weeks. Screens were being set that jarred a couple of players, and some serious hustle was happening all over the floor. Part of that is (in my mind) attributable to the crowd being right on top of the floor, and some of that goes to the rivalry aspect of the game. In the end, it is all a result of the kids playing the game. Biggs had to be pleased with the effort.

I think that, with the remaining games, Ashland has to gaurd against getting a false positive in terms of success, as the toughest part of the schedule is now behind us. This was a tough week for the Cats, with three very solid opponents. It's good to end the week on a high note, but the real work starts in another couple of weeks.

Yeah, that will be the start of a "new season" as they say. You're right about the false positive, my leaning is that it won't happen. Last week was tough but neccessary. Coach can stand up and tell them all he wants about the pitfalls of worthy opponents with questionable impact. But last week had the effect of bringing the concept home at about the right time IMO, I don't think we'll look past anybody.

On a different note, not that I don't Love our 16 region officials---crickets---but, we can expect to see crews from other regions at the regional tourney if memory serves, correct?

Like you, I don't like to lose, but if you do lose a game, you should be smart enough to learn from it.

As for the officials, that can be a good thing, or a bad thing. I've seen areas in this state that (in my opinion) would LOVE to have our officials (on the whole). Then again, you and I have both sat through games that we would have loved to be able to change out a zebra or two.

Didn't realize that you had posted about the Regionals being in Morehead. Won't make another post unless it is word for word according to your post.
