Martin County 62 Pikeville 59 OT (15th Region Semi-final)

The Cardinals advance to the regional championship game...I hope they win Monday night and advance to Rupp

Well. Good game to watch and congrats to Martin County. I’d love to see the FT discrepancy though. Several very curious plays too. Both ways. Martin County season will end versus Shelby Valley. They run ZERO offensive sets. I think their coach just holds up random fingers to make it look like he’s calling plays. Injuries taking out the Panther backcourt just was too much to overcome this year. Bright future for the Panthers though!

At one point in OT I think on WPRG they said Pikeville was 6-9 and Martin County was 24-28,,,.that may not be the exact #s but close so a large discrepancy. Props to MC for making them though.

Great win for Martin County!!!!!!

Pikeville put a big run together to send it overtime hitting huge three point shots and Sammons going to the goal and finishing.

First time I’ve seen Martin County all year and I’m no coach and never coached more than a 5-6 grade girls basketball team. But they got Trey James at about 6’8 catching passes inside the free throw circle and then looking to cutters off the corners for layups. Why not just post him up every trip down the floor? He never touched the ball on the low block the whole time I was watching.

What happened in the stands behind the Martin Co. bench? I heard them talking on the radio some fans were getting out of hand and that security had to come over?

Not exactly the classiest post I have ever read. Congrats to Martin County.

Oh get pounded, dude. Lol. Tons of worse posts on here, and for the record, not a thing I typed was wrong. I congratulated MC and pointed out the obvious.

It may have been nicotine withdrawal. That was a very long game and they were getting cranky. In all seriousness did anyone else think that James fouled out at the end? I think he even thought he was finished but he ended up with four instead of five. That was a very enjoyable game. For the most part the game went back and forth and was tighter than Coach Jaryd Crum’s skinny jeans. Congrats Cards.

MC County was 26-32 and Pikeville was 9-13 from the free throw line. 25 Total fouls for Pikeville and 15 for MC. Not going to blame the loss on that just pointing it out for a previous poster. Pikeville struggled to score in the first half and couldn’t capitalize on opportunities . So to hurt another poster feelings on here but not having there backcourt came back and bit the Panthers tonight. MC was making Sammons life very hard and one would have to believe those guards would have helped a ton tonight. Congrats Panthers on a really good year despite all of the challenges. Congrats to MC you did what you needed to do to move on and played a very good game.

When was the last time Sheldon Clark/Martin County won the 15th Region?

Martin County is hot as a firecracker right now. The final, regardless of who the face, should be a good one.

Looks like Shelby Valley won't be the one to take Martin County out.

Such a great game to watch. Was extremely impressed with Rylee Sammons of Pikeville. He played excellent in this ball game. Pikeville better enjoy his time at PHS. He's pretty special.

Martin County continues to find ways to win ball games. Trey James is the difference maker for them. He needs as many touches as possible down low. I really like Smith-Mills as well. Kind of a do it all type player that seems to always be in the right spot.

Congrats Cards!

I saw that. Wow. When I’m wrong, I’m wrong.

It was an awesome game. Probably the best two teams in the region next year. I will say this for the panthers they were gifted a beast in Rylee Sammons. That kid is a matchup nightmare. Too big for a guard to match up with too fast for a big. He’s the real deal. You give him his PG back in hall and another great player in Lockheart and they are gonna be almost impossible to beat.

Glad my cards won... the Sammons kid is is a special player. First time I got to watch him play this year.

Brady Dingess was the reason Martin County won this game and has been on a roll. Good thing he transferred back. He has made me look bad.

This was one of the better games I've watched live. I know its a new school, but when Martin County lost the 8 point lead late, I thought it would be another instance of the Cardinals letting the pressure get to them like it did to Sheldon Clark in a few big games, but they were able to survive and I was glad to see it. Congratulations to Martin County!

I didn’t realize there was that much of a discrepancy in free throw shooting, but the refs weren’t entirely to blame for that although they did make questionable calls against both teams.

Martin county attacked the rim all game long and forced Pikeville to rotate and help defensively and often times fouled. Maynard passed up countless open jumpers, or swing passes for an even more open jumper, to get in the paint. Pikeville really didn’t attack the basket off the dribble until late in the game with Sammons.

I remember how awesome it was too see Pikeville go in 1999 for the first time in 25 years and even beat Boyd County in the 1st round before giving the eventual state champs Ballard all they wanted in the 2nd round.

Martin County is overdue, I hope you guys win Monday night and represent the 15th Region in Rupp.

He’s a nice offensive player, but he turns the ball over way too much. He committed 8 turnovers in this game and it was more than the Panthers could overcome.

I agree which brings up the point again that this game more than others he missed his back court. If healthy Sammons is the 3rd ball handler on the team. He was asked to do everything after the injuries and he missed them last night. Still heck of an effort from that young man. Last four games which was 2 district and 2 region games he scored 23,23,27 and 26. Heck of a stretch.

Exactly the point I was trying to make, which Ralph Furley seems to conveniently overlook. That many touches for someone not specifically normally asked to do so, will result in more TOs. Would have loved to see what Pikeville could do at full strength.

But they weren’t, and that’s the nature of sports. Congrats to Martin County again. Seriously.

Pikeville played a zone defense so getting the ball to the low post was difficult. What James needs is a lights out shooter to get people out of that zone.LC will give MC difficult match up probs, they start 5 guards and numerous players can score. SV yet again imploded in the the tournament, should be an interesting off season.

The overrated talk is crazy. Kid was on his own basically the last 2 moths of the season. Harris is a good shooter but as far as ball handling driving to the goal ect. It was sammons. The fact that he took that team as far as he didn’t only confirms the hype. This coming from someone who was glad they lost. No bias. Just calling it like I see it
