Darryl Hicks is headed to North Oldham High School.
The 6-foot-4 Hicks, considered the state's top incoming freshman, played on the varsity level as an eighth grader last season at Shelby County. But his father, Darryl Sr., confirmed to The Courier-Journal on Tuesday that his son is enrolled at North.
"It's officially North Oldham," the elder Hicks said. "Everything is cleared and he's enrolled and ready to go. We're excited for him."

Not really sure. They were 19-11 last year and have some talent returning though. Adding Hicks could make them one of the favorites to get to Rupp this season.

Interesting story on the Hicks transfer:
http://www.sentinelnews.com/cgi-bin/c2.c...8019019004
Also heard that Hicks AAU coach has a son who plays for North Oldham and on the same AAU team as Hicks. I'm not accusing anyone of any of wrongdoing, but take it FWIW...

The kid you speak of is a good shooter and his name is Levitch. I would expect him to get several open looks at what he is good at with Hicks drawing some double teams down the road as he gets even better. Hmmmmm , college coaches will get to see both of them. FWIW...lol

Who cares? Really? Every school, including Holmes, and Scott Co. and Highlands etc etc. has "transfers". Or recuits. It happens, and it isn't going to stop. (I'm not limiting this to just basketball but in other sports as well).
Also, never seen the kid play, but know of many who have and I wouldn't jump the gun and say one person is going to make a team get to Rupp. Make them better, yes. Make them tops? Na. You need more than one amazing player to do that.

with legal guardianship being trasferred over to Hick's AAU coach, things could get very interested via KHSAA, stay tuned

I have heard not legal guardian, but academic guardianship.

See the above post that I quoted before yours. And I never said I cared about a school receiving transfers. Like you said, it happens all the time.
BUT, Just because a school receives transfers doesn't mean they're recruiting. Holmes, Scott Co, and Highlands are all three traditional powerhouses in basketball and for Highlands, football. Also, you may want to do a little research before throwing out things that aren't true. ALL of the kids who have came in to Holmes and Scott Co, MOVED to the area WITH their parents, unlike Hicks. He is simply moving in with his AAU coach to attend school there.
In Holmes case, Avery has had several cousins come through the program (Braeon Avery 08, BJ Avery 06) and is from the Covington area, just like the Johnson Brothers and Housely. A transfer is a transfer, I know. Also, FWIW, Avery will be taking advanced placement courses at Holmes and some IB from what I understand. Holmes has the best IB program in the state and is one of the few schools that even offer it.
You can accuse schools of recruiting all you want, but unless you have PROOF or FACTS to back it up, don't disrespect the programs and coaches just because they're having success. I don't know about Billy Hicks because I'm not close to that area or program, but I doubt very seriously Coach Henley is recruiting anyone. Kids want to play for top programs and win and right now Holmes is in the middle of a special run that hasn't been seen very often . Three straight final fours and back to back state championship appearances while going 70-5 over the past two years (95-15 over 3 years) . Of course if a kid has the opportunity to play there, they're going to.
Don't blame coaches and programs for parents moving in to an area so they can better the opportunity of their child succeeding and making it to the next level. Sometimes us adults forget that what we should care about most is kids succeeding. As long as they aren't breaking any KHSAA rules when they receive transfers, why accuse the school of recruiting?

Never said he'd get them to Rupp but rather adding him COULD make them a favorite to get to Rupp over the next few years. If you don't think one player can lead a team, see Landon Slone against J'town in 07 at the state tourney. A player as high caliber as Hicks has the ability to take over in a game at the high school level.

I know a lot more than you think.
I wasn't accusing any school of anything or disrespecting any program. It is what it is. There is transfers and recruiting, and you can say all the mumbo jumbo about it being with their parents and for academic reasons yadda yadda, but when it comes down to it you really don't think some boys came back to Holmes or move to Holmes, or Scott Co or Highlands or other schools because of sports, or because of slight recruiting? You go ahead thinking that if it makes you sleep better at night. I understand your loyalty and admiration for the Holmes program and it wasn't to dog on your team so just take it easy.
And yes I think it's odd that Hicks AAU coach is his guardian or whatever.
And no, I don't think one player can single handedly take a player to state unless he is Lebron status and I haven't seen him and I'll trust the peoples opinions who I know are respected and professional over someone who I do not know who seems to think he knows a whole lot more than he probably does. Please don't take offense dude.
And on top of it all, I have to be honest i didn't really read through all of your post and kind of got off on a tangent..dont need to point that out, I already know.
I'll leave you with..I played competitively all three sports in high school and I went to a school like Highlands and Holmes and Scott Co who are sometimes questioned or thought to maybe recruit. And there is a lot more than you think.

Of course people move to certain areas for sports related reasons. I never said they didn't. If you are a parent and have a son/daughter who's an outstanding athlete, you obviously want to see them put in the best situation possible both on and off the court/field. I just don't believe that these schools are recruiting them like you say. As long as the KHSAA is ruling these kids eligible, there's not much you can say about it. It seems to be the jealous ones who accuse these top programs of recruiting. A lot of times, it's an AAU coach that is trying to get certain players to play together at a certain high school, (see Hicks) but those coaches have no affiliation to that program, so you can't accuse them of recruiting.

I never once said Hicks would lead them to the state tournament but rather he is good enough that it COULD happen. Hicks is an outstanding athlete and will receive HIGH D1 offers by the time his senior year rolls around. You'd be surprised how far one very good player can lead a high school team. Again, I refer back to Landon Slone of Paintsville when he dropped 35 on J'town in the first round of the state tournament in 08 and single handedly beat them. Obviously Shelby County is going to be the favorite year in and year out in the 8th region but don't count out a team who has someone as talented as Hicks. And no offense was taking to any of your posts. Just stating my opinion.

Are you from the nky area? Obviously not if you think people are questioning Holmes and Highlands about recruiting. The only ones I know of who are questioning them are those who are jealous of their success. Any sensible person who knows both the coaches and admin involved at both programs knows that recruiting isn't something that is done and is frowned upon big time. Both Highlands and Holmes have had success in football and basketball for decades. I guess they've been recruiting for 40+ years? One of the biggest reasons for their success is a lot of the players who come through the program never leave the area. Look up the amount of kids on each team who had a relative (mom, dad, aunt, uncle, cousin) who came through the program before them and you'll see why the tradition continues with these programs year in and year out.

Well it seems clear that you are choosing to turn the other way and that is fine. I'd prefer not to acknowledge bad things too.
And as I said, I think at any given time one player on any team can alter a game, but not an entire season. And I'll listen to the people whose job it is to look at these kids who tell me about him. I appreciate your opinion, but like my opinion is to you, yours is just that to me.

Hey nothing wrong with that...we can agree to disagree on this subject. That's the great thing about this site ; it allows you to voice your opinion and debate with others.

Hicks, two years from now could be the difference between a state championship or not. The kid projects to be about as high major as you can get.
As for this year IDK, but definitely in the future.
Also there is more to this than just him attending there. There are a few of his buddies that are going to be heading to NO this year and I think that was a big part of the decision.
And by the way he is just heading into his frosh year if I'm not mistaken so there isn't an issue as far as where he attends.

I agree. Shelby Co. will be too much this year with Johnson, Beach, and Beckley, but after that it's definetly possible that Hicks leads them to the state tournament and farther. As you said, the kid will be a big time player.

I wouldnt count Simon Kenton out in the future. They have a ton of talent coming up the ranks and many have been playing together for years. A group of Summit View kids, Andrew Sampson, Jared Swanson, Jackson and the big fella Ben Racke from Twenhofel and they could contend for the 8th Region Title in as little as 2-3 yrs. Both Twenhofel and Summit View had loaded 8th grade teams this past season and although they get the choice of going to Dixie/Scott and Sk I am hearing that most of the top players are heading to SK.

Swanson is going to be a stud in basketball and football. He's also not too shabby at baseball either out on the mound. I have no clue where he got his genes from...must be his mom's side...lol
Timmy Tierney, former Covcath star, is his older cousin.
