Dave Brossart's tenure as the Covington Catholic football coach ended Wednesday, less than two years after it began.
Covington Catholic principal Bob Rowe said Wednesday that Brossart had resigned from one of Northern Kentucky's most high-profile high school coaching jobs.
Asked if Brossart had been forced to resign, Rowe said, "I don't want to comment on that."
The school later issued a release. "We are very thankful to Coach Brossart for his effort and hard work," athletic director Mike Guidugli said in the release. "We wish him nothing but the best in his future coaching endeavors. He is remaining on staff as a math teacher. We will begin our coaching search next week."

Can't say this one is a surprise. There have been alot of rumbles of dissatisfaction with Brossart. After the poor record this past season it really was inevitable.

There has been consternation ever since his hire. Not many CCH fans felt he was right for the job at the get-go. However, the challenge is more than the coach though. CCH has been losing a lot of potential players in the past three years. The Diocese rule of middle schoolers committing to their district has had an impact. CCH had been the recipient of players that came from virtually the entire NKY area. That's not happening now. Transfers have been way down from other schools, which CCH counted on in the past.
I have no doubt that CCH will rebuild the program, but they will now have to refocus on their youth programs.

Any names being thrown out yet as to who the new coach will be?

The get a lot of players from the NKYFL's Ft. Mitchell Spartans and the Erlanger lions. Both programs have been very successful over the past few years. I would not be surprised to see the Colonels right back at the top of 5A.

I believe it. Not many folks were happy. You are now hearing the exact same thing about Listerman being pusehd out after this year as the Basketball coach. If anyone remebers last years baseball team, many people were upset with the perfromance (or under performance) of a team that has a D1 and potential draft choice in their lineup. Many folks at CCH made the claim that every team pitched around Luke Maile, thus, taking the Colonels out of contention
So, is it the coaches that made this one of the worst football seasons for the Colonels in the last 20 years, as well as the Basketball teams bad 0-6 start to this season. Did the baseball coaches do a poor job of not beating an underdog NCC?
OR
Has CCH found themselves without the same atheletes that they have had in years past that allows them to compete with anyone in the state. Was Luke Maile the only player on the baseball team last year, and by pitching around him, there was no other players with the ability to pick up the slack
I think the program has hit a downturn in talent. It happens. Every program has a string of good and average athletes. Should the coaches be blamed for the talent level coming to the school. Remember, the don't recruit :dontthink

I think there has been a decrease in talent and it is a shame that parents can not understand that, and want to blame the coaches. Changing coaches now might make their return to the top take even longer. Best of luck to CCH and hope the football team continues to play at a high level of competition.

I agree. I think CovCath was a team with one exceptional athlete surrounded by a lot of decent ones, and that the incredibly tough schedule just amplified the problem. They were an average team playing a superteam schedule.

Spoken like a true Bird

No, I agree with you. CCH, IMO, out of ego and trying to match what HHS was doing put themselves in 5A for football when they did not belong. I can appreciate the want for a challenge, but they overestimated their ability to compete consistently.

Mike Martin - former bengal receiver. No connection to the school. He is a very fundamental and faith based man. He pitched the idea to the Bengals two years ago about him being a voluntary (no pay) mentor to the likes of Chris Henry and Odell Thurman. He was turned down by the Bengals front office. Go figure...

They won't be down long. One of the best jobs in the state IMO. Athletes galore for there class size.

Saw on the news today where Mike Martin was offered a college job but turned it down to stay with his high school team in Cincy.

Yes I saw that today as well. Last night on channel 12 news (Cincinnati, thee was talk of him moving to a different job and talking to his players about leaving. I'm not sure if that is what the above post was referring to or not.
I had also heard there were conversations with a coordinator from Cincinnati Colerain. I have not heard anything solid about either.

Martin has done a great job at Taft. I would say more off the field than on. In the interview I saw this morning he mentioned that he felt he just wasn't finished with what he wants to do at Taft.

What's a real shame is this is a genuine individual who wants to give back. His voluntary work that he wanted to do with the Bengals just baffles me that they did not take him up on the offer.

If CCH can get Martin I would jump all over it.
Kind of shows why the Bengals are what they are.
