Mayfield Cardinals 2016
#1
I know we have just finished the 2015 season as the #1 team in 2a, but, I wanted to give somewhat of an update on how the Cards should look next year. We have a whole lot coming back next year and this will give you an understanding of that, I think.

The biggest question for me at this point is how do we replace our big time kicker and I don't know. I hope the j v kicker makes progress through the off season.

Offense

We return 2 time starting state champion QB, Landon Arnett
We return 2 time starting state champion RB, Trajon Bright
We return 3 starters off the offensive line and 1 role player there. Then of
course a center for the kick team.
We have been told that Alec Giron is going to return next year which gives us another solid lineman.
We return 2 receivers that played sparingly this year in Harrison and Lumson.
We return all 3 of our tight ends.
We have to replace the 4 starting wr's, but that is an area in which Mayfield was very deep.

Defense

We return 1 of our starting linemen, Micah Brimer.
We return Arnett, Hurt, Workman and Tapia at LB.
We return Bright for cb, and also Murrell, who filled in sparingly.
We return Lumson and Fox at safeties.
We will also use Tyler on defensive line some this coming year, a position he got quiet a bit of use at this year.
We also have a freshman that was impressive at DE that will be returning.
It is unknown if Xavier Brown can get back into the role next year.

Add to all of this the bunch of incoming 8th graders. This is a pretty large group with numbers and athletes. They made a great showing in the playoffs this year with only 1 loss.

I think this next season could be even stronger since we will have some experience and size on the offensive line. We will still have a great speed advantage as well.

More of the same. Mayfield will feast on 2A cupcakes.

Who is Alex Giron? Never heard of him. What's his size, position, etc?

Also, what's the deal with Xavier Brown? Was he released from the team or something? What position does he play? Size, etc..

I agree, 55, next year should be a very good year.. Arnett will be under center for his 3rd year as a starter, Bright will be a Sr, after contributing big at RB for the last 3 years..

With the losses at WR, I look for Joe to move Tyler from RB to a slot receiver and try and get him in space and use his athleticism and big play ability.. I doubt they have as many quality WRs as this year, losing Kennemore, Caldwell, Walker and Tucker, but, they'll have a guy or 2 from the under classes that'll step into a go to roll. They always do..

What I'm most excited about are the return of the 4 LBs.. Those guys made the defense this year and returning all 4 getting a year older, bigger and stronger, should make for a killer D.. They're all fast and fly to the ball.. I like Fox, Trajon and Tyler in the secondary, also.. They're all good cover guys..

I think the line play will be improved.. We just lacked size and depth in the trenches this year and the big, physical teams like NCC, Murray, Corbin, Desales, McCracken gave us a lot of trouble. Having 3 returning starters on the OL will help, but, those kids will need to improve, as well and get bigger and stronger.. Otherwise, we'll be facing those same issues..

2016 should be another good year, but, it'll be tough as the Cards will have to take their game on the road in the playoffs, which is a little different challenge than what we faced this year, where everything went thru War Memorial..

Great LB group

Mayfield's biggest question will be WR.

That is a lot of production saying goodbye outside.

Herndon will be tough to replace in Special teams

Brown is a huge 6'1" de with lots of speed off the edge. He got quiet a bit of roll play last year relieving Mills. I won't speak to his issues. Alec Giron is a large lineman, the grandson of one of our legendary coaches. He was one of the mainstays on the soph group when in middle school and just decided to set this year out. He is roughly 6' tall and 240. The wr core for next year will be very explosive.

Mayfield will be back in bowling green 2016 I thought this year was the year to knocked them off.....It's to late for anybody in 2A to beat mayfield in 2016....I think I just say that!!! Confusedinglepar

I am going to saver this year for awhile before looking to next year but I feel better about next year than I have about this year and last year going in, Outside of kicker, we look to be in good shape, the jv receiving corp is already excellent. I also hear that the kicker is pretty good though he is replacing greatness in Sid

I think we could possibly have more speed at receiver next year. I think our line will be more experienced and bigger. Our backs should be stronger, faster and more experienced. Our QB should be stronger and more experienced. Our defense has very little in the way of positions to replace. And CAL has a grass field for us to play on in late Nov.

Mayfield just keeps feeding their kids the magic water. They should repeat in 2A

Saw Sid at the gym and was talking to him. He is training the jv kicker so maybe there is some hope. Working out with him and kicking with him. Should be fun to see. Hope he comes out ready. Does anybody know his name by the way?

64, when you go loading up the bus with transfers to your new adopted school can you drop off a couple really good kickers to us? Remember, I shared some water.
