Paintsville 70 Pikeville 69
#1
Final from Pikeville.

Trevor Tiller hits a game winner with 4.3 left. 3rd game Pikeville has lost at home on a shot within 5 seconds.

Paintsville shot the lights out. Tiller, Miller, Daniels, Hensley, Trimble on and on. Tigers were going to be hard to beat tonight, need to defend a little better, but they just hit shots that most teams haven't been hitting.

Pikeville actually played pretty well. Rowe finished with 26, Kasongo had 22 pts and 15 boards. Hamilton played a good game as well. Panthers did a great job of taking the lead after being down 6 late, just needed to have the ball last in this one.

Panthers will hit the road and try again for win #20 at Pburg tmrw night.

Congrats Tigers, first win over Pikeville in the big 3 sports since 2010 baseball. It has been a nice run against the Tigers, hated to lose this one.

Regroup and finish strong!

Wow. This one surprised me when I saw it on my KHSAA Scorboard app earlier. Shouldn't have even been in the position to lose on that shot though.

Paintsville really took advantage when Kasongo left the floor due to foul trouble and then ultimately when he fouled out. Not that they did anything drastically different, but Pikeville is definitely a different team without him on the floor.

You are correct Pikeville was in complete control of the game when Kasongo went to the bench. He really takes a beating in the paint. The two fouls that sent him to the bench were blockouts on the FT line. Paintsville played /shot really well though.

Most teams usually are different with their 6'8 athletic freak not on the floor! Lol

I will say what others are too nice to say. One play rarely changes a game, and there were opportunities to salt the game away (free throws mainly), but the last foul on Ray was totally bogus. He went STRAIGHT up, got undercut while getting the rebound, and the refs called the foul on him. Said it before, had chances to put it away, refs did NOT lose this game for Pikeville, but at least 3 questionable calls down the stretch (last 4 minutes) that come to mind. The other blatant one was when Rowe was fouled while hitting the layup and they said it was on the floor and sent him to the line for the double bonus. Misses the first, hits the second for the 69-68 lead right before Tiller hits the game winner. Sitting next to a former HS ref and even HE was amazed at a couple calls. Congrats to Paintsville, moved the ball well, blocked out well, and I counted 3 times they touched the ball 4 or more times fighting for offensive rebounds, kept it alive, and ended up scoring. Can't let teams do that if you want to win. Paintsville will not be an easy out in the 57th at all.

But just once, I'd love to leave a game not scratching my head over refs calls. Just once.

That never happens in the state of KY after a loss. Never. Not UK, not high school, NEVER!!

Good road win for the two seniors and three freshman

Suprising road victory for the Tigers! Senior night might have got this team clicking!!!

After ANY game. Even in their wins, I've been perplexed at how poorly the games were called. Not being a fair weather critic at all, and not taking away from Paintsville, they weathered the storm and came back. I'd just love to see consistency. And that is lacking with the refs I have seen the past several years.

Youd think after painstville made 5 straight threes you wouldnt play a loose zone like the panthers did but o well

Just outstanding ball movement by Paintsville. Wasn't really a loose zone, their ball movement was outstanding and caught the matchups right and had a free shooter in the corner on at least 3 occasions. 2 of them though, were with a hand in the face, just great shooting. Can't take that away from Paintsville at all.

You know how to fix that, don't you?

Not sure what you are implying. But I would definitely suggest that the KHSAA look into having rotating evaluators, maybe retired refs from the college or high school levels show up incognito at games at evaluate from stands and film review, perhaps. I've seen no less than 4 games this season dramatically affected by inconsistent calls. And no, they were not all Pikeville losses.

I'm sure Pikeville didn't want go close out the regular season with a loss like this...but they'll be fine I think.

What I meant was get your license since apparently you don't miss a call from the stands. Refs sometimes miss calls. There's no hidden agenda. I've seen college and pro refs blow them. And they do that for a living. But it seems like every thread about a game has a comment about the refs. But like I said, give it a try.

^Just because you want refs to not suck doesn't mean you want to be a ref.

Dude, I never said they can't miss calls, they are human. But for the love of all holy, be consistent is all I am saying. Put that in your pipe and smoke it with Doug Shows, bro. You must be a ref, a wannabe ref calling little league games, or the lover of a ref, as much as you stick up for them. I just want them to be consistent.
#22
I'm with you on this PHS, the refs are terrible. I don't want to referee either. There are several refs that don't even know the rules or just plain cheat.

Yes you are right. I have no problem with a call or no call. What I hate is the inconsistency of these refs. We have the worst in our region. Watch how much better calls are in the regional tournament. I agree refs at all levels miss calls but what makes our refs look like they favor one team over another is the fact that whats a foul on one end aint on the other. Our refs call very few charges also they don't even understand what a charge is. For the record to the smart A who said become a ref if you don't like the calls. Well here is the fact I didn't sign up for it they did. So do the job fair and consistently. That's all we ask.
