What's everyones stand on this issue?

Ah.....
I mean I understand why it's there.
I don't have anything negative to say about it.
However, I do think it's a bad idea for it to apply sports as it was never supposed to have anything to do with it.

couldnt agree more, as far as school (in the classroom goes) i agree.

but sports wise it is taken too far.

the sport should only get as much as it generates rather than taking money away from football baseball basketball etc.

female sports just arent popular, increase fundraising, if you cant make the money then you dont need the facilities and all the big money.

I know of a school in the area that had a donor generously give enough money to buy lights for a schools football field.

They weren't allowed to put lights up on the football field for YEARS because they had to wait until the girls softball team had enough money to put lights up on their field as well.
All because someone said that "it wasn't fair".....
someone had to watch money that they donated sit in a bank account.
The donor could have died and never saw the lights that they paid for.

I went to a school that we weren't allowed to have "Boys Varsity" and "Girls Varsity" cheerleading squads.
They had to divide the girls up immediately and list them as the "Red" and "Black" team.
All because someone said "it wasn't fair"....
Cheerleaders that have worked all their life to be on the "Boys Varsity" squad could no longer achieve that goal.
They couldn't be the cheerleaders that were at the games with the biggest crowds, and the best cheerleaders.

I wish the real world was like that.
I wish I didn't have to mix the talents that God has granted me, what my teachers/professors taught me at school, and the work I've put into my carreer to get a better job.
I wish I could just say, "It's not fair", and have someone say,"Hey! I don't think it's fair either. I'll just give you the benefits of all these people that have been at it longer, have worked harder, and know more about it than you."

Wouldn't that make everything better?

I know similar situations like this, I think the system is abused and its "not fair", actually its quite absurd. title 9 needs to be adjusted, sadly this will never happen.

I also believe homeschool kids should be allowed to play sports at the school district they live in, their parents pay taxes so why not let them play, especially in places like here in Lawrence County where the school systems are bad.

its not enforced properly so why have it?

It is the parents choice to homeschool. If they want them to play sports, let them attend public or private school. So if I do not have kids, should I have to pay school taxes. What kind of accountability will home schooled kids be held to as far as grades. You are sitting the system up for failure as you may have an athlete who struggles in the classroom, has poor attendance, or just a bad attitude and he will drop out and be home school by his parents who may not have sense to get in out of the rain and he will be allowed to play while you have kids that get up early every morning, ride a bus, go to class and attend practice. Athletics is not a right, it is a privilege.

Homeschooled kids are allowed to play sports in the district they live in. Heck Tim Tebow was homeschooled.

As for Title 9, I think its crap. Like someone said earlier about the money for lights being donated for the football field but they oculdnt put em up til the girls got lights on the softball field, thats a crock.. If I'm donatin money for lights to go up on the football field, they better be up within a month or two or I'll not donate another dime to the school. I dont have a thing against girls sports, but like it was stated earlier they just arent popular and they dont generate the money that boys sports do. Boys sports shouldnt be punished for that, it's not the boys' fault.

I think the laws vary from state to state in regards to home-schooled kids. I do believe that Tim Tebow is the exception and not the norm. They need to make the laws more stringent in Kentucky on who and how kids are home-schooled before they allow them to automatically get to play sports. As far as Title 9, I think the intentions were good but it has got out of hand. I think any donor should be allowed to donate or buy something for any program they want. I know at Letcher Central, the money earned at the gate, or through donations, or other fundraisers go into that sports program's account. Non-revenue sports usually have more fundraisers to pay for expenses. The only thing the Letcher County school system pays for is the coaches salaries and the maintaining of the facilities. Every expense comes out of each sport's account. That would include Buses, uniforms, etc. One sports program never pays for another. However, when a school system builds a baseball field out of their funds, they should build a softball field of equitable value. Letcher Central has not done that but have promised that they will when the new vocational addition to the high school is finished and the new field will be built next to it. They have a waiver from Title 9 at this time, but if they don't build it, they will be in trouble. So what I am saying is if boosters or the program itself(with money raised) buys something, there isn't anything wrong with that and nothing should be said. If the school system is spending all of its money on one program and neglecting another, then that is a problem because that money is coming from taxpayers and girls parents pay taxes as much or more then boys parents. Boosters and businesses in Letcher County have been very supportive of girls athletics in Letcher County over the past 30 years due to the lopsided success the girls have had over the boys.

To me Title 9 in sports is like socialism. People who work hard are not rewarded for their efforts because they shouldn't have it better than others. We all know how great socialism is in real life.

It is according to who is doing the rewarding. If it is hard work from boosters, then they should reward who they want to. If it is the school system using tax payer dollars, then shouldn't a successful girls program receive more money then a mediocre boys program at the same school because evidently they are working harder.
