Those who aren't football gurus will soon have a chance to learn a little more about the game
The Highlands Football Club, a group of players' mothers who support the team in various ways throughout the year, is holding a Football 101 camp for any slightly or severely football-illiterate people in the area.
"We are trying to reach out to anyone who is interested in learning more about football," said group member Tammy Schroder. "Even some of the players' moms, who know about their son's position, may not know about the other positions and other parts of the game."
The event, scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15 in the Highlands High School cafeteria, features lunch, raffles, a silent auction and several speakers.
To cover the history of Highlands football, the club is bringing in local historian and author Bill Thomas.
To explain more about the game, the event includes the team's defensive coordinator Brian Weinrich and quarterback coach Jared Lorenzen.
The event is a fundraiser for the club, which helps provide meals for the team and decorates the players' front doors throughout the season.
"We do whatever we can to support the team," Schroder said. "We don't have a big budget, but we need to raise some money to keep doing what we're doing."
Tickets for the camp are $15 and need to be reserved by Thursday, Aug. 12 by sending a check to the HHS Football Club c/o Tammy Schroder, 61 Memory Lane, Fort Thomas, KY 41075.
For more information call Schroder at 781-2412.
