Remember how Democrats vehemently denied Republican allegations that the mandates requiring everybody to have health insurance or pay a penalty was a new tax? Well, it turns out that was just one more lie perpetrated by the Obama regime upon the American people.
So, does this mean that 0bama was just joking when he promised not to raise taxes on families earning under $250k/year?
Just as conservatives argued months ago, the federal government has no right to require individuals to enter into contracts to buy anything. Consequently, 0bama has no choice but to characterize the mandate as a tax in an effort to avoid constitutional issues.

Quote:Changing Stance, Administration Now Defends Insurance Mandate as a Tax[/INDENT]
WASHINGTON â When Congress required most Americans to obtain health insurance or pay a penalty, Democrats denied that they were creating a new tax. But in court, the Obama administration and its allies now defend the requirement as an exercise of the governmentâs âpower to lay and collect taxes.â
And that power, they say, is even more sweeping than the federal power to regulate interstate commerce.
Administration officials say the tax argument is a linchpin of their legal case in defense of the health care overhaul and its individual mandate, now being challenged in court by more than 20 states and several private organizations.
