Marion County High School's girls' basketball team was ranked No. 1 for much of last season before losing to eventual state champion Mercy in the Sweet 16 opener.
The Lady Knights have the nucleus of that team returning and on Sunday claimed the Kentucky State AAU girls' team title.
Sophomore-to-be Makayla Epps (photo, right) had 23 points in the title game as Marion County downed Butler 51-40. EPps led the way with 19 in the semifinal win over Bryan Station.
Butler had defeated Madison Central.
