No. 1 Trinity Tops Seneca For Third Time, 73-60
Shamrocks and Ballard Will Face Off Friday in 27th Title Tilt

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Trinity broke a 22-22 tie with a 13-0 run in the second quarter to take control and advance in the semifinals of the 27th District Tournament at Ballard High School with a 73-60 win over Seneca.

Trinity will face Ballard on Friday in the district championship game.

Trinity (26-2) maintained the lead the remainder of the game, never allowing the Redhawks to close the gap to less than six points.

Leading Mr. Basketball candidate Josh Sewell finished with 25 points while senior Taylor Epley had 18 points to lead the Shamrocks. Sophomore Nathan Dieudonne had six points and a team high eight rebounds.

The Shamrocks posted their third win of the season over the Redhawks. Seneca has been ranked among the top ten teams in the state for most of the 2009-2010 season.

Trinity has now won 11 straight games against teams from the Seventh Region and are 12-1 on the season against regional competition.

Trinity guaranteed itself a spot in next week’s regional tournament for the seventh time in eight seasons. The Shamrocks won the program’s only regional title in 2004. Pairings for the regional tournament will be announced on Saturday.

Trinity will face Ballard on Friday looking for its first district title since 2005 and its first as a member of the 27th District. Tipoff for the 27th District finals is set for 7:00 p.m. at Ballard High School.

Both teams are currently receiving national recognition from Rivals.com and ESPN Rise in their national rankings. Trinity is ranked 40th nationally by Rivals.com while Ballard is 80th. The Shamrocks are ranked seventh in the Midwest Region by ESPN Rise while Ballard is on the Midwest Region bubble.

Trinity and Ballard will meet for the third time this season. Each team owns one win in the series this season. Ballard posted a 56-53 win in Steinhauser Gymnasium on Dec. 15, 2010. The Shamrocks advanced to the finals of the 2010 Republic Bank/Coca-Cola Louisville Invitational Tournament after beating the Bruins 69-63 in overtime in the event’s semifinals on Feb. 16, 2010 at Atherton.

Postgame Notes
• Trinity has won 24 straight games, a school record. The Rocks have won 26 of their last 27 games overall.
• Trinity’s 24-game streak is the second longest in the Seventh Region since the start of the 2001-2002 season. Only a 26-game streak by Ballard during the 2006-2007 season is longer.
• Trinity has won 21 straight games away from home to start the 2009-2010 season. The 21-game streak is the best streak in program history. Trinity won 17 straight games away from home during the 2004-2005 season, the previous best in program history.
• Trinity is 48-10 over the last two seasons. The 48 wins ties the best two-year mark in program history.
• Trinity is 16-0 in the 2010 calendar year.
• Trinity improved to 42-26 in the month of February under Mike Szabo, including a 7-0 record this year.
• Trinity improved to 7-2 against Seneca in postseason play during the Mike Szabo era as the teams met in the opening round of a district tournament for the seventh consecutive season. Trinity has won six of the last seven postseason meetings between the teams.
• Szabo is now 16-3 against Seneca in his career.
