This belongs in the believe it or not file. Two weeks ago the House voted to purchase a 3000 acre cotton plantation (Castle Nugent National Historic Park) located in the Virgin Islands for $50 million dollars. The land is currently being used as a cattle ranch.

These people are idiots.
I thought this was an interesting passage from the article.

Quote:The property soliciting accusations of "pork" from critics is the Castle Nugent National Historic Park. It's in the U.S. Virgin Islands, about a thousand miles from Miami and an expensive jet ride to get there.

Of course, if you are a House Speaker with Air Force jets on standby to meet all of the travel needs of you and your extended family, the Virgin Islands will not be an expensive trip at all - although it will cost taxpayers $18.000/hour. It will be cheaper than flying San Fran Nan and her family between DC and San Francisco.
