Walt Jocketty called from the Winter Caravan bus on the way from Bloomington to Indianapolis. The Reds are still talking to both Orlando Cabrera and Jonny Gomes.
Cabrera is weighing an offer.
âWeâre waiting to hear,â Jocketty said. âWe should know in the next day or two.â
The Reds can offer Cabrera a chance to play shortstop. Thatâs not the case with the other club reportedly involved, the Colorado Rockies.
âIâm not sure how theyâd use him,â Jocketty said.
He, no doubt, pointed that out to Cabreraâs representatives. Thereâs no deadline on the Redsâ offer to Cabrera.
âI donât like to do that to guys,â Jocketty said.
He didnât expect the deal to be completed tonight.
Jocketty confirmed that the offer to Gomes is a minor league deal. The Reds have the full 40 on the 40-man roster.
âI talked to (Gomesâ) agent a little while ago,â Jocketty said. âHopefully, we can get something worked out.â
