After weeks of speculation and deliberation, Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis has decided to retain Tom Cable as head coach for the 2010 season, a source close to the situation told ESPN on Saturday.

Cable will fulfill the final year of his contract with the Raiders, the source said.

When contacted, Raiders spokesman John Herrera did not confirm that Cable would remain coach for the 2010 season, saying only that, despite meetings into the night the past two days, no decision has been reached.

Cable had one year remaining on his contract. But after meeting with Cable again this week, Davis made a decision that will be popular among players

by keeping his head coach in place, the source said.

Cable had widespread support throughout the players in the Raiders locker room.

But his return does not mean changes will not be made. Oakland will tinker with its assistant coaches. It did so Friday when it brought back defensive line coach Mike Waufle.

Cable's return continues what has been an offseaon of stability for head coaches. Many thought Cleveland could dismiss Eric Mangini, Jacksonville could dismiss Jack Del Rio, Dallas could dismiss Wade Phillips and Oakland could dismiss Cable.

Part of this is due to the financial uncertainty surrounding 2011, a year in which players said they are preparing to be locked out. With so much uncertainty, NFL owners are opting for stability with their coaches.

That will be his last year.
I wish Cable would have told Davis to stick it in his *** after the way he went about his "decision"...

So you are saying the Raiders lose because of Cable? :lmao:
Raiders still have a football team??? As a Bengals fan, I surfe am glad their is the Raiders. We should never be worst in the league as long as Al Davis continues to hang on........
Does Al Davis REALLY think he's gonna be able to get a name brand coach to coach his team? I mean, this isnt 1977. That "commitment to excellence" is nothing but a memory. Nobody in their right mind would take that job. The Raiders have talent, but if its one and done for everybody that doesnt win 10 games, they are out the door. Stay in Oakland, Al.

And I never thought their could be a more incompetent Owner than Mike Brown:igiveup:

yep, I mean they should have a few more wins with what players they do have but all in all if you dont have a good coach even the bad players dont know how to play right

You got to be kidding me? I mean the have Jemacrus Russel at QB. He should have never been the number 1 pick. That was all Al Davis. They have a sub par linebacking corps, an unstable o-line and ZERO passing game. So you saying Cable is the reason for this? That's laughable.
