I'll strongly disagree Saint X or Trinity probably had the best secondary in the state, and i wouldnt put valley before about 20 other teams
Okay.
I more less meant 2A, and statistcally speaking. Shelby Valley did.

No offense, but who did SV play that threw the ball consistently besides Prestonsburg? They didn't even throw the ball that much against Valley because our offensive coordinator was out with the flu.

I would disagree with you.

Leslie Co, Pike Central, P-Burg are all great passing teams. Even Clintwood threw it around some. They held Burchett to around 100 yds. and he was the states leading passer. Say what you will, ask Burchett how well SV's secondary played against him. Give credit where credit is due. They finished the season as the top ranked pass defense in 2A and finished 5th overall.
Freshman Jonathan jackson of Mayfield made hon mention at LB. This is a name all will know before this kid is done. Many here in Mayfield think he is the best frosh we have ever had.
Shelby Valley played several teams that attempted to throw the ball. Prestonsburg didnt throw the ball in the second half, but they tried very hard to in the first half. Burchett threw a int, and Pburg came out in the second half and ran the ball.

This season, PCC, PBurg, Lawrence, Clintwood,Corbin combined to go 54-11. Which is over a 10 win average, and around 2 losses. Every one of these teams attempted to throw the ball very heavily agains Valley. Lawrence had the most sucsess, but no one single team had over 100 yards passing.

Shelby Valley had a HM All state saftey. IMO another ALL state caliber player in 2011 in Rusty Roberts, who is 6'2" and this was his first year playing football. I promise they are not 20 secondary groups that are better than Shelby Valley

Oh I've given Valley all the credit they deserve after the Prestonsburg game because they ran all over our defense. But to say that Leslie County & Pike Central had great passing teams is an overstatement. Don't get me wrong they where decent passing teams, but neither lit up the scoreboard or stat sheets through the air.

As for the Prestonsburg game, Burchett was 7-13 82 yds 1 td 1 int. The Blackcats ran the ball 39 times for 176 yds. Now we threw the ball for an average of 20.2 times a game and ran the ball for an average of 27 times per game. Again, our offensive coordinator missed the entire week of practice leading up to the Valley game and he is the one that draws up all the passing plays.

Now Shelby Valley had probably the best team in their school's history this past season and had one of the better backs in EKY, but to say that they had the best secondary in the state is yet another overstatement. I'm in no way shape or form trying to take anything away from their season either.
Since this thread is hijacked already I might as well too. Blackcat, I have great seats Sunday at LP Field. Hope we can get it done
Paducah Tilghman was the only champion without a single player even getting an honorable mention nod. The ultimate statement for a team without individuals.
All state teams are a joke they have no bearing on the way that kids actually play the game. You tell me that Collinsworth is an ARMY ALL AMERICAN and can't make all state in the state of KY. Ha
Austin Collinsworth did make all-state in KY. He is listed on the 2nd team.
Congrats to all the players from EKY. Well deserved.

I have not seen a better D-lineman than Lawson from Bell Co. Very physical and has great closing speed.
I think CoachM needs a reader. lol J/K. I think the AP is pretty darn close on who is who.

I totally disagree with this AP list. Prestonsburg's Austin Mckinney and Alex Griffith lead the team in tackles and was 1st and 2nd in the state in tackles. Mckinney rushed for over 400 yds and had over 500 yds receiving, which seems great considering he hadn't touched the ball in 3 yrs. Yet these 2 didn't even get an honorable mention. Don't quite understand this concept.

I also don't see how you have reciever that leads 2A in yardage (Jamerson) and not get an HM nod.
I'll admit that I was hoping to see a couple more Prestonsburg players, at least on HM, but it really kinda goes along with what I have said all year. This Blackcat team was just that....a TEAM. They weren't the biggest, fastest, or strongest. In terms of pure athletes, they had very few. They just played very well together as a team, and ran their offense and defense schemes very well. The only "stud" on this team was Burchett, and I'm sure he would have been 3rd team, if it existed (although I do wonder how he made the ballot for Mr. Football and didn't make at least 2nd team...).

That being said...it makes you wonder how many of the AP voters actually saw any games or game film of Prestonsburg. Corbin and Middlesboro had some great players, but for them to place more players on the HM list is puzzling. No Prestonsburg WR's on the HM list? Really??? Griffith and McKinney were in the top 5 in tackles in the entire state, and not a mention of them. Really??? Josh Craynon is one of the best HS cornerbacks I have ever seen play, yet no mention of him. Really???
Where are you finding this information on leading the state in tackles? KHSAA doesn't track tackles across the state that I can find.

Maxpreps.com Mckinney and Griffith was 1st and 2nd in 2A and was in the top 5 in state.
Maxpreps is lame. I wouldnt put too much into that leading the state in tackles. Maxpreps isnt used that heavily in KY.

Tanner Tacket LB for Shelby Valley has 131 tackles this season, he also had around 600 yards rushing and several TDs. He didnt get Honorable Mention either. It happens to everybody.

Really?
Good to see Jack Coorts on the All-State list of players, though I was a bit dissapointed to see a few extraordianary Oakers not make the list. It would have been cool to see Matt Starks (RB), Chayton Thacker (MLB), and Carson Beyer (WR) on here as honorable mentions, but I'm actually colored shocked to see Cameron Looper (QB) not on here at all. To me, Looper was the second best quarterback in the state behind Andrews, at least in statistics.

Of course, I'm a bit biased seeing as how I'm a Junior at Lone Oak, but I just wanted to enlighten some people on some statistics to show you all how underrated our quarterback has been all year.

I'll just compare his stats on offense this season to another stellar QB who is an honorable mention and a Mr. Football nominee. And here is a link to the source material.

Michael Burchett (Prestonsburg)

Games Played- 14
Yards Passing- 3142
Attempts/Comp.- 284-185 (~65% completion rate)
TD Pass Comp.- 39
Interceptions- 6
Yards Rushing- 429
Rushing Att.- 101 (4.24 y/carry)
Rushing TDs- 9

Cameron Looper (Lone Oak)

Games Played- 15
Yards Passing- 3469
Attempts/Comp.- 359-243 (~67% completion rate)
TD Pass Comp.- 39
Interceptions- 1
Yards Rushing- 684
Rushing Att.- 133 (5.14 y/carry)
Rushing TDs- 9

As we can see, all of those stats are either equivalent or are in Looper's favor. The exception would be yards per pass, which would probably go to Burchett (I didn't calculate that). Still, much of that particular statistic lies in the hands of the Wide Recievers, and not as much with the quarterback. And its not as if Prestonburg's schedule was above Lone Oak's in difficulty, either (Massy has Lone Oak's schedule rated at 42, and Prestonburg's at 128.) Its clear that, at least from a statistical point of view, Looper has a big and underrated edge.

Now, this is NOT to degrade any of the other quarterbacks, such as Burchett. Burchett is an EXCELLENT quarterback and possibly better than LCA's quarterback (though I haven't done much of any research on him, so I don't know.) The reason that I used Burchett as a comparison figure was because of his stats and his Mr. Football nomination, which both label him as a superb player.

However, my question is this: if Burchett, along with a slew of other quarterbacks who are less accomplished than him, make honorable mentions, how come Looper does not? Is it a size issue (Looper is, I believe, 6 foot tall, 185 lbs, and runs ~4.6 forty), or am I missing something?

Thank you, and I look forward to posting in support of my home team in the future here on these boards.

Mckinney had 160 tackles and Griffith had 168 for the season.
I can understand Miles Simpson being ahead of MacShara, but Rees definitely should have been 1st team, ahead of Hayden. MacShara had better stats against better teams than Hayden. Guess its just because Hayden went to a Lexington school...
Sorry to bump this, but I'm not sure if some people say my previous post in this thread (when I posted it I was still a moderated member, so the revelation of the post had to wait...and other people posted after I did, and so it appeared as if there were no new posts up, when mine actually appeared after the people who posted later.) I'm just really curious as to how Looper is not at least an honorable mention when you account how great all of his stats were.

Thanks!

Im gonna agree with the Looper kid being on here, Dang he was good!
Cole Cooper(DB), and Blake Kilgore(WR) from Lewis County deserved HM. Cole had 7 int's and Blake was 3rd in 3A in the state in rec. yards despite only playing 8 of 11 games at receiver(he played RB against KCC, was hurt on the 1st play vs Fleming, and didn't play vs Mason).
