The Shamrocks running back set school records with 307 rushing yards and six touchdowns in Trinity̢۪s 42-13 victory over Scott County in the Class 6A playoff semifinals, eliminating the Cards and setting up another state title game between the Rocks and St. Xavier.
Bishop̢۪s 14-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter gave Trinity a 7-0 lead. After Josh Walls brought the Cardinals even with a 1-yard TD run on the next possession, Bishop ran off three straight scores, including a 66-yard romp with 2:36 left in the third quarter to give the Shamrocks a 28-7 lead.
Bishop̢۪s dominance on the ground took the pressure off of Trinity quarterback Brad Kragthorpe, who was 8-for-13 passing for 91 yards.
James Happy had the biggest offensive game for the Cardinals. The junior wide receiver caught seven passes for 110 yards and a touchdown late in the third quarter to pull Scott County within 28-13.
Bishop answered that score with two more of his own, including a 60-yarder on the next possession.
Trinity will play city rival St. Xavier for the state title next week in Bowling Green. The Tigers defeated the Shamrocks 32-7 last month at Papa John̢۪s Cardinal Stadium. Trinity, which lost three of its first five games to start the season, hasn̢۪t dropped a decision since the loss to St. Xavier loss, a winning streak of eight games.
St. X defeated Greenwood 28-6 on Friday night.
Trinity has won the last four state titles (beating the Tigers along the way in three of those post-seasons), and either the Rocks or St. Xavier have won every championship since 2000.
