The Bellevue football team tuned up for next week’s Class A district showdown against Beechwood with its fifth victory in a row Friday night, a 48-0 win at Ludlow.
The Tigers took advantage of six Ludlow turnovers. They got 176 rushing yards in three quarters from tailback Ricky Buckler, who finished one long run short of his third straight 200-yard rushing effort.

Buckler carried 29 times and scored on touchdowns runs of 3, 18, 3 and 2 yards. His last carry of the night for his final touchdown with 3:21 to play in the third quarter completed Bellevue’s seventh scoring drive in 10 possessions.
Bellevue (6-2) rolled up just over 400 yards of total offense while limiting the Panthers (4-4) to 146.
"Give Bellevue all the credit. They gave us a good butt-kicking," Ludlow coach Rick Hornsby said. "We turned the ball over too much, but I don’t like making excuses. They beat us."
The Tigers remained tied with two-time defending small-school state champion Beechwood at 4-0 in district play.
Bellevue hosts Beechwood in what amounts to the district championship game at 7 p.m. next Friday in the district finale for both teams. Bellevue will be gunning for its first district title in 10 years.
It didn’t take long in Friday’s winning post-game huddle for Bellevue coach Dave Eckstein to bring up Beechwood, an 11-time state champion.
"This was a good win tonight," Eckstein said to his players. "Now I want you to get ready to play Beechwood. You are getting ready to play players, not the school, not the name on their jersey and not the state championships. You are getting ready to play boys, just like you. And if you go out there and play boys, we can win."
Buckler said Bellevue will be ready.
"Being 4-0 in the district right now gives us a lot of confidence for Beechwood," said Buckler, who needs 272 rushing yards in two games to reach 2,000 for the regular season. "We had great blocking by the line again tonight. And we passed the ball pretty well."
Bellevue quarterback Richard Wills ran for a 23-yard score in the second quarter as the Tigers took a 14-0 lead, and finished 5-for-9 passing for a season-high 101 yards.
Tight end Alex Hegge had three catches for a season-high 100 yards, all in the first half, including a 58-yard touchdown reception with 3:28 to go before halftime.
Bellevue led 34-0 at the break.
"We’ll have to keep it up," Buckler said. "We need to play our best game next Friday."
Beechwood won 48-0 last year against Bellevue, which hasn’t beaten the Tigers since a 27-21 regular-season home win in 2005.
"Beechwood isn’t as big and powerful as in years past, but they’re still scary. It’s just a different kind of scary," Eckstein said. "They are very fast and very quick this season, and we’re going to have to be up for the challenge. And I think we will be because we played so well tonight in all areas."
Bellevue scored at least 40 points for the sixth time this season, and shut out an opponent for the second time in four games. The Tigers have outscored the opposition 195-14 in the last month.
Among Friday’s Bellevue defensive heroes was Hegge, who had an interception and a fumble recovery from his linebacker position. Defensive back Mike Rankin and linebacker Travis Lyvers also came up with interceptions.

Its too bad Ludlow had 6 turnovers which caused short fields and cut down on the amount of yards Buckler could have rushed for in this game.

Im pretty confident he meant that Ludlow shooting themselves in the foot and not making a game of this hurt the Buckler kid, who is shooting for a school rushing record
