this is from maxprpeps, thomas has 860yds,avg 8.96 per carry, and 172 yrs per game in 5 games.....congrats to thomas and the boys that make this happen,it also had chase maynard at number 32....go pirates..TongueirateSho
no he isnt
MaxPreps only publishes stats when coaches post them. While this is a great accomplishment for Varney it is hard to say if he is the leading rusher in the state since not all coaches from all teams post all stats. That being said, he has some remarkable numbers.

Not taking anything from Varney, he has some impressive numbers. But also keep in mind, the numbers listed on the KHSAA stat leaders do not include this past Friday's games. Those numbers won't be uploaded until the end of this week or possibly first of next week.
Rees MacShara's numbers for Boyle County are:

40 carries - 802 yards - 20.05 ypc - 13 TDs in 4 games

I can't imagine anyone doing much better than that.

Doderer from Paintsville suprassed the 1000 yard mark against Allen Centrel Friday night so these stats are not right.

this must be wrong considering doderer from paintsville has 1,006 yards this yr with 11 td's.....he is leading the state not varney
860 and then add on Friday nights Whitley Co. game 318 so that makes a total of 1178 yards.... along with 7 TD's.... IMHO, that's pretty impressive!!
The 860 includes the Whitley game.
Rockcastle RB Clark Rowe has 767 rushing yards rushing on 87 carries and 10 rushing TD's in four games. It may not be the best in the state but he is only 14 years old
I think if you look at it the are listing him as a QB.
yes it does have him at qb but it doesnt matter, still good numbers,

Not sure where this list came from but Rees MacShara of Boyle County isn't on the list with his 802 yards and 20.05 yards per carry.

Came off KHSAA website and those are for schools that report stats.. and it may have been for class 2a as well.

I'm also a Bell fan. I watched Belfry/Whitley last friday. Varney is not the most gifted kid running the ball but he will bust his *** to to get his yards. You have to pull for a kid like him. Enjoyed watching him play. I wish him the best.

he got to to preatty gifted the kid, has score a td in every way possible, he has played qb, rb, kicker, punter, corner ,safety, where he is needed ,takes someone preatty gifted to do all that, not everyone can do it...and yes he gives it all he has and always uses his blocks if he can then he is gone...
i wish all high school coaches listed on max preps. We might not see so many posts about the kids that get over looked. Recruiting is a sales job after all unless your Tim Tebow. not enough parents relies that so there kid goes unnoticed. but due to lack of effort on there part (parents) not coaches.
Updated Stats:

According to data from the KHSAA website:
#1 in 3A in Rushing Yards and Average YPG
#2 Overall in Rushing Yards and #7 in YPG
#1 in 3A in scoring
#1 overall in points scored and #2 in PPG
Only player to score in every category on the KHSAA Stat List (Rushing, Recieving, Passing, FG, EP, and 2 PT-Conversion)
Congrats to Varney hope he stays healthy and finishes he season the same way he has started it.
pretty sure Jostan Helton from Magoffin is in the top 3! If i'm not mistaken he was around 900 before the game friday night against Knott Central. He had over a hundred in that so he probably broke the 1000 yard mark! But he's only played 5 games..
Last week was Belfry's off week.... IF I'm not mistaken, Thomas' actual yardage is over 900 yards so..... Let's see what the young man will do this week against Pikeville!

Congrats Tom.... OUTSTANDING job young man!!
There was a thread about Thomas being the most underrated player in the state. After the Whitley County game I agreed that he was. Watched him last year a couple times. Like someone already said, he earns every yard he gets. I would love to have him on our team, him and Doderer would be dangerous together IMO.

After Week 6

Paintsville (2-3)

Nehemiah Doderer: 132 Carries for 1,218 Yards and 13 TD's

203 YPG
9.2 YPC
13 TD's
