I had an idea after I saw the greatest player from the mountains thread.

Who are the best players of all time at each position from the mountains. We will have first team offense and defense, second team offense and defense and special teams. Also list your selections football accomplishments after high school(if any). Ill post my teams later.
The obvious quarterback choice is Tim Couch. But, I'm going to go with Waylon Chapman from Breathitt during their 1st Championship run.
Wide receiver has to be Gerad Parker from Lawrence county... Not sure on the other positions yet. I'll try to think and post some later.

Dusty Hall, NO WAY, David Jones at WR, NO WAY, and Robert didn't even play TE. This is an ALL-TIME Mountain Team. I cant make a list cause I aint old enough to go back past the mid 90's other than just hear-say. You put Dusty Hall infront of RB's like Michael West from Lawrence County, Barrett Rogers from Pikeville, not to mention some the other Pikeville greats like Brent Coleman.
chill dude.......haha
dusy hall was as good as any runnig back ive ever seen.
and i dont know many tight ends so i put robert there. can you name any great tight ends im younger like you this is people ive actually seen. the older ones from tapes. calm down and make a team

I think you have to have Jeremiah Akers from Pikeville at WR with Gerad Parker, Akers did lead the state in recieving for two straight years.
I think Big Bob Shurtleff from Pikeville could be on both O and D lines.
I think Chase Gibson from Pikeville has to be one of the TE.
Jeremy Caudill didn't even play O line.
Jacob Tamme isnt even from EKY.
I think that Jody Brown from Pikeville and Ian Welch from Johnson Central have to be considered at CB.
I also think that Jeremy "Goon" Anderson has to be in the running on the D line.
Brent Coleman is on this list hands down over everybody at RB.
I am sure I will leave some people off that I will want to put back on there later, also I am younger and never saw some of the greats play, but here it goes.

QB Tim Couch, Leslie County
HB Doug Howard, Belfry
HB Quinton Henson, Lynn Camp
FB Eddie Duramus, Pikeville
TE Brent Slusher, Bell County
WR1 Gerad Parker, Lawrence County
WR2 Jeremiah Akers, Pikeville
OL1
OL2
OL3
OL4
OL5

DE1 Floyd Branham, Middlesboro
DE2 John Rader, Breathitt County
DL1 Jeremy Caudill, Pburg
DL2 Joey Stepp, Sheldon Clark
Please ignore my message above:

^Pretty good list. Q. Henson doesn't belong. Maybe you mean Scott Russell of Evarts? He was much better. But Steve Bailey of Pikeville was the best back from these parts since 1980. Definitely a good list though. A little homerism to have 4 Belfry players there too haha...

HAHA Try to knock those Belfry boys off with the exception of Clevinger, who is one of the best lineman to come from the mountains, but IMO not truly first team worthy if I could have remembered everyone's names. You didn't take exception to 3 Panthers and instead insisted ona 4th Big Grin

Henson and Bailey was back and forth for me. He was the very first person I listed when I came up with my second team. Hard to argue his stats and the way he single handidly carried that entire Lynn Camp team. I never saw Scotty Russell play or else he could have been up there.

Wink Is that why you didn't do a 2nd team or an honorable mention? Didn't feel like going back and listing the Pikeville rostersfor the past 15 years? HAHA JK
Chris McNamee has to be on there as a DB since he started for a D1 school...
so add him and take one of those Belfry guys off...
EKU was D-2 and still are in football. His team almost beat Marshall in one of there Championship years in the playoffs if im not mistaken.

Incorrect on the D-2 thing... EKU has been D-1 for a looooong time. They were formerly D-1AA, now they are FCS, but D-1 nonetheless.

I know a few Hazard player would be on here, like Jon Olinger, Payne Olinger, Bebo Combs. There is a few other player from other teams, that i would add on here... But i can't spell there names or i would add them on here...
Prestonsburg's DT Jeremy Caudill should be on everyones, he started all four years at UK and played for NFL European Champs Amsterdam.

John Ortega, Nick Jamerson, and Matt Slone should also be high considered.
Don't forget Byron West and Eric Witherspoon from Middlesboro back in the 90's...

Might as well add Robert Thomas of the 87' champ. team to that list , since he started for the University of Va. He was left off. tackle for Pikeville in 87'.

Looks like a good list there JP. I may be mistaken but didn't Chris Deaton play for JC, and does anyone know who was the kid that played TE and LB for Lawrence County a few years ago that went on to play at Tenn.

Paintsville had a player in the 60's named Minnix that was real good also.
Deaton did play for JC and recent players Welch and Grimm did set records. Seth Hyden Pburg, Bubba Combs BL, Brown Paintsville

But i also watched several games where Jeremy never recorded a tackle. One was against Sheldon Clark when a 200lb John Dials held him at bay all night. Now he did go on to become great. Size and speed got him there and they made him somthing but he was dispointing in high school.
