8th Region Finals at South Oldham
CRESTWOOD, Ky. - This season has been about one thing for the Simon Kenton girls' basketball team - getting back to Bowling Green.

The Pioneers earned that right again Saturday, beating Anderson County 67-40 in the Eighth Region tournament final at South Oldham.

"We wanted to get back here," said Simon Kenton senior guard Chelsea Tolliver, who scored 16 points.

The Pioneers (27-4), the No. 1 team in the Enquirer coaches' poll, will meet 14th Region winner Breathitt County (23-7) at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Sweet Sixteen at Western Kentucky University's E.A. Diddle Arena in Bowling Green. The Bobcats defeated Letcher County Central 56-42 in the 14th final.

Saturday night's Eighth Region final was a rematch of last year's title game, won by Simon Kenton 48-44, but this was a mismatch.

The Pioneers scored the first eight points of the game, led by 15 after the first quarter, 19 after the second and 33 after the third.

"We know we're going to get everybody's best shot and I think the girls were a little embarrassed with how they played (Friday) night," Simon Kenton coach Jeff Stowers said of his team's semifinal win over Oldham County in which the Pioneers were up just two points at halftime. "I could see it in their faces tonight, they were focused."

Tolliver scored the first five points of the game on a layup off her own steal, then a 3-pointer. Surprisingly, though, those were her only points of the first half.

She picked up two fouls in the first quarter, then was whistled for her third with 5:30 to play in the second. She went to the bench and didn't return for the remainder of the half.
