Lexington Christian was coming off of a state championship last year.

So maybe the Eagles didn't take their next season quite as seriously as they should have.

"We didn't have that hunger," Anna Martin explained.

Fellow senior guard Courtney Clifton agreed.

"We didn't practice hard last year," Clifton said. "This year, we're giving effort. We're playing our hearts out. That's important to us. It's how we want to go out."

They didn't want to go out like they did last year, falling in the district semifinals to archrival Lexington Catholic.

The No. 2 Eagles' hunger showed in a 74-64 win over Catholic Friday night in the 43rd District championship.

"We've learned how to win games and how to do it together," said Martin, a DePaul signee who had 22 points, six rebounds, five steals and three assists.

Western Kentucky signee Clifton was named tournament Most Valuable Player behind her 26 points and three steals.

University of Kentucky commitment Sarah Beth Barnette had 16 points, eight rebounds and eight steals for the Eagles (26-4), who won their 12th straight game.

Both teams advance to the 11th Region Tournament at Eastern Kentucky next week.........
Congrats girls!
