Highlands finally tops Newport
It was back and forth all night as Highlands escaped numerous comebacks by Newport to win 71-61 Wednesday in a 36th District semifinal boys' basketball game at Newport Central Catholic.

Highlands jumped out to an 18-11 first quarter lead and was up 38-23 at halftime. Newport managed to cut the lead to three by the end of the third quarter after a 21-9 run.
It was all Highlands in the fourth quarter as the Bluebirds outscored Newport 24-17.
Junior guard Zach Lother and junior center Tyler Grubbs scored 16 points apiece for the Bluebirds.
Newport was led by senior center David Darnell's game-high 24 points.
Highlands will face Newport Central Catholic for the 36th District title at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at NewCath
