Efficiency was the name of the game for two-time defending girls' champion Lexington Christian at the All "A" Classic in Richmond on Wednesday.

After less than 16 minutes of play in the first round of the small-school state tournament, the Eagles had nearly a 20-point lead en route to their 79-62 win over Middlesboro.

LCA, No. 12 in Dave Cantrall's Rating the State, will meet Owensboro Catholic, a 41-34 winner over Todd County Central, in Thursday's early quarterfinals.

The winner will advance to Thursday night's semifinals.

The Eagles' big three were efficient, too, led by DePaul signee Anna Martin's 29 points, six rebounds and six steals in 24 minutes of play.

University of Kentucky commitment Sarah Beth Barnette added 22 points and 11 rebounds in 22 minutes, and Western Kentucky signee Courtney Clifton had 17 points, four rebounds and three steals in 27 minutes.

The Eagles, who have won 10 of their past 11 games, made 52.9 percent of their first-half shots and 48.5 percent for the game. From three-point range, LCA (15-4) was nearly as accurate, shooting 43.5 percent.

Middlesboro (12-8) was led by a combination of Colemans. Shaleesha Coleman had 20 points and nine rebounds. Samantha Coleman added 12 points and nine rebounds.
