The Scott boys' basketball team got a crucial break at the end of its home district game against Campbell County on Tuesday night.

Scott coach Brad Carr hopes his team won't need another one.

Campbell County's potentially game-winning 3-point attempt at the buzzer rimmed out and the Eagles claimed a 53-51 victory. The win put them in the driver's seat for the top seed in the 37th District tournament. Scott can lock up the No. 1 spot with a home victory Friday over Bishop Brossart. A Scott loss would result in a three-way tie with Brossart and Campbell. Then, the top seed would be drawn from a hat.

"I don't know that that's ever been done," Carr said. "I'm hoping we don't have to."

Campbell County (12-3) - Albrecht 4 1 9, Franzen 1 0 2, Nerl 5 9 21, Jolly 5 1 12, Smith 1 4 7. Totals 16 15 51.

Scott (12-4) - Smith 5 4 15, Murray 6 2 17, Niederegger 3 0 7, Gligorevic 2 0 4, Wilson 1 1 3, O'Conner 1 5 7. Totals 18 12 53.

Campbell County 11 13 7 20 -51
Scott 19 8 11 15 -53

3-pointers: CC 4 (Nerl 2, Jolly, Smith); S 5 (Smith, Murray 3, Niederegger).
Tough loss for the Camels, but playing at Scott is a challenge in itself.

Scott takes the top seed for District with this win.

Another solid performance by Patrick Nerl.
