On 3-11-1988 at 3pm. i left Blaine for the 15th Region semi-finals at the Pikeville gym. The first game was at 6pm with Betsy Layne vs. Martin County. The second game with Phelps vs. McDowell did not start to 9pm. Brian with his 24 points led the team to a win. On 2-1-1986 Brian scored 28 points to lead his team to a 1 point win in overtime at Matewan, Wv. Melvin Cunningham scored 40 points for Matewan. As a fan for Phelps to get a road win across the border but great players playing for both teams. At the start of his sophomore season Brian on 12-14-1985 scored 38 points, 12 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals in a home win. Seven days later he scored 34 points. WPRG through the years have run the finals as Phelps won the region. The bleachers across from the benches showed the fans from Phelps had filled this section. His teammates Mike Fannin, Jamie Keene and Ronnie Blankenship, Larry Stevens and Mike Justice. His outstanding leadership and working with all the children at whatever school he was principal is honor to him.
