Wow. What a beatdown.
I will admit, I was way off in my pregame prediction. I assumed Pike Central would at least keep it respectable, but this game stopped being respectable after about 6-7 minutes.
Valley's offense looked much better today against what had been a pretty good defense. Russ Osborne threw for 4 TD's, and had several long pass plays called back due to penalties. The running game had some issues at times, but was overall effective. Hopefully this is the SV offense we see every time going forward.
As for defense, much improved. Granted, Pike Central's offense looked brutal most of the night. But anytime you pitch a shutout, that's a good thing.
As for the Hawks, oof. It did not look like they were ready to play from the opening kickoff. They were often manhandled along the trenches, and they did not have enough team speed to keep up with Valley's skill players. Just a tough game all around.
Anyway, good luck to both teams next week. Valley faces Betsy Layne in what should be for the district championship!

That is almost correct. Valley made it 41-0 with about 7-8 minutes left in the first half, and that's when the ref started the running clock.
It was 35-0 after the first quarter, though.

No surprises here.
Pike Central is limited offensively and they struggle to defend the pass and this was a perfect matchup for Shelby Valley, who is a team capable of putting up a lot of points and a lot of yards in a hurry and tonight that's what happened. 35-0 after 1 and 41-0 at the half.
The Hawks had no one that could defend Brady Bentley and slow down Russ Osborne through the air.

Pike Central currently lacks a comprehensive program beyond youth football. In youth leagues, kids aren't prioritizing weight training and as much skill development needed for daily improvement. Once students reach middle school, they face a lack of consistent coaching staff and proper coaching to nurture their fundamentals, a problem persisting for years. In contrast, Pikeville and Belfry consistently maintain such programs. Regarding the high school level, it's challenging to name a single quality coach since Chapman's or McNamee’s tenure. There's a notable absence of a structured weight program for ongoing player development. While Pikeville, Belfry, and other area schools invest heavily in off-season training. Until Pike Central brings in coaches who can fortify the middle school and high school programs, their performance is likely to remain stagnant.
