From Russell make the All-Area Team. Just a little info for ya.
Dillon should have made it. Either as a TE or DT.
didnt Toby Hicks make it?
Did not hear Toby or Mikey, dont know yet..
DEVILOLOGIST Wrote:Did not hear Toby or Mikey, dont know yet..
They both should. I heard the five you mentioned as well but I cannot see how Dillon and Hicks are not on the all area team.
Toby Hicks made the all-area team, but dillon did not.
Does anybody know who else made it from the other teams around the area?
EkyLb Wrote:Toby Hicks made the all-area team, but Dillon did not.
Well then he got the shaft. Either as a TE or a DT.
Usually with the line, it seems it only goes to seniors, there are exceptions but rarely, I could argue all day why Dillon should have made all area. I could also argue in favor of Bates also. Im sure there's a few players form other teams that feel they should have made it. Dillon had a good year. Hopefully this motivates him in the off season to get much stronger, if he can increase his strength quite a bit, he could could make a run at all state with his size and athletic ability. Just gonna require hard work from now till next September. I think next year's team has a great chance to be the best all around team Russell has had in awhile. It will require the kids doing a lot of hard work though. Increasing strength and speed. The natural athleticism and football ability is there, no doubt about that.

I agree. Dillon has the size and skills. Also that next years team has a great deal of potential.
Amen!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fball.
I agree. Alot different from this year when only 3 starters returned from either side of the ball. Next year we'll have the entire LB and Secondary coming back on defense and the entire backfield/receivers on offense.

The lines on both sides of the ball will need to have guys step up and hit the off-season conditioning on a regular basis to replace the departed senior class, but I do believe we have some candidates for the positions who can do the job.

At least next year I can come to the games and actually enjoy all the good things to eat at the HANK, because my stomach won't be doing the nervous flip-flops because my guy will be a fan as well next year.
This is also scary !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Belfry returns almost everybody.

I know that this is a Devils post but I had to throw that out there for you guys to see.!!!
I believe, I have not found an 08 bracket yet, but I believe, we would plat @ Belfry next year, assuming both teams get that far and are number 1 seeds, in the regional championship. Russell will be district 7 vs Belfry District 8, its an even year, so the game will be @ Belfry. I haven't seen a bracket but I believe we are in region 4 next yr with Belfry.

I think you're right.
Congratulations to all the players that made the all area team.
I'm sorry but Mike Dillon got the shaft. There is no way you can convince me that he did not belong on this team as either a DT or a TE. No way.

Congratulations to Tyler Jones. To me he was the POY in the area either Big school or Small school.

Here is the link to both teams.

Haven't seen '08 yet, but unless they move teams around into different regions again next year, here is what the region and semi-state bracket should look like (I'm using this years playoff teams as examples!!)

Region 3 - District 5 = Somerset
Region 3 - District 8 = Belfry
Region 4 - District 6 = Breathitt
Region 4 - District 7 = Russell

Regional Champsionship (definition from KHSAA Website - The highest seed (finishing position in the district) shall host the regional championship game (third round). Should
teams with the same seeding meet in the third round, the team representing the even-numbered District shall host
the games in even-numbered years, while the team representing the odd-numbered District shall host the game in odd-numbered years.
)

[
NOTE : According once again to the KHSAA Website - For the regional championship (third round), the pairings shall be set on a rotating basis in the classes. The rotating schedule for the region (and relevant semi-state, in bracket order) shall be:
Class 3A-Region 1 - District 1 vs. District 4
Class 3A-Region 2 - District 2 vs. District 3
Class 3A-Region 3 - District 5 vs. District 8
Class 3A-Region 4 - District 6 vs. District 7

The highest seed (finishing position in the district) shall host the regional championship game (third round). Should teams with the same seeding meet in the third round, the team representing the even-numbered District shall host the games in even-numbered years, while the team representing the odd-numbered District shall host the game in
odd-numbered years. If the paired districts are both even or both odd, the highest numbered district shall host the game in even numbered years and the lowest numbered district shall host the game in odd numbered years.

I interpret this to mean that in 08' district 6 would not meet district 7 again, but a rotating system would place them against another district. For example, in 2005 Russell (Region 3district 6)was at Newport (Region 3- district 5) for the Regional Championship and in 2006 Russell (Region 3-district 6) was home with Corbin (Region 2 - district 4). The reason Russell hosted Corbin even though they are both even numbered districts in an even numbered year was the underline section of the rule above.

SO AFTER SAYING ALL THAT - REALISTICALLY "IF" KHSAA WANTED TOO, THEY "COULD" SETUP A REGION GAME WITH BELFRY BUT IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW KHSAA ROTATES THE DISTRICTS NEXT YEAR

NOW FOR THE SEMI-STATE (IT'S A LITTLE LESS COMPLICATED)

B]Semi-State [/B] (Definition from KHSAA Website - For the semi-state round (fourth round), the champion of region 1 will play the champion of Region 2 while the
champion of Region 3 will play the champion of Region 4. The team representing the even-numbered Region shall
host the games in even-numbered years, while the team representing the odd-numbered Region shall host the game
in odd-numbered years.)

2008 Would look like this (If KHSAA does not move any team into a different region)

(Belfry or Somerset - Region 3) would be at (Russell or Breathit - Region 4) because of Region 4 being an even number.

Whew -- Anyway if I get anymore information that corrects the above information, I will let you folks know.

They have a blind draw to see which district plays which. Its already been determined for next year. It would be opposite of this year. Breathitt and Belfry in the same region and Russell in the same region with Somersets district. That would put the region 4 as the Belfry district / Breathitt district matchup and region 3 as the Russell district / Somerset district matchup. The Semi state would be played at region 4. Which would be at Belfry or Breathitt.

UPDATE = HERE ARE THE DISTRICT BRACKETS FROM LAST YEARS REGION CHAMPIONSHIPS

DISTRICT 1 (TRIGG) PLAYED DISTRICT 2 (OCATH)
DISTRICT 3 (LARUE) PLAYED DISTRICT 5 (MERCER)
DISTRICT 4 (CORBIN) PLAYED DISTRICT 6 (RUSSELL)
DISTRICT 7 (MIDDLESBORO) PLAYED DISTRICT 8 (BELFRY)

EDITED: SO "IF" BELFRY AND RUSSELL ARE IN REGION 4 AND REGION 3 NEXT YEAR THEN THE GAME WOULD BE AT RUSSELL BECAUSE RUSSELL IS IN REGION 4 AND BELFRY IS IN REGION 3 AND 4 IS AN EVEN NUMBER.

SEE CHANGES ABOVE
We'll see, but I think we will be in Belfry's region. If we are in Somerset's region then as long as we win district, we will host all 4 playoff games at home. Unless they move us to region 3. Being as our 7 district will host the 5th district. Then region 4 hosts region 3, being an even year next year. So I hope thats how it plays out.
Thats what I thought???????? We get to host all 4 if we make it next year.
DEVILOLOGIST Wrote:Thats what I thought???????? We get to host all 4 if we make it next year.

Wow!! I've never known a high school team to be able to host all 4 rounds. I thought at least 1 round (3 or 4) had to be an away game.

(At least that's how it has played out in Russell's last 4 years)

That doesn't quite seem fair, that Belfry (If they get back to round 4 next year) would get a semi-state home game 4 out of 5 years in a row. I always thought that it alternated from year to year. I thought the reason it flip-flopped this year was due to the re-classification. (If not for that then Breathitt would have had the semi-state game).

Its already been determined for next year. Has it been posted on KHSAA or anyplace else we can look at yet?
Definitely should have been a couple of more Devils.
Yes, it's unfortunate but Russell would have to travel to Belfry next year again for the state semis if both teams win their Regions. Russell is flopped to Region 3 next year with Belfry being flopped to Region 4. Fortuneately, 2009 and 2010 would both be hosted by Russell, once in the regional final, and once in the state semis.

As for not being able to get 4 home playoff games, it is very possible. Back in the 4A system Ashland had this opportunity every EVEN year that we won district since we were in District 8 Region 4. Alternatively, in ODD years we could only host a maximum of 2 playoffs games if we won distrct.
