A complete joke. By far the worst class for RPI. Schedule a couple weak 5 and 6 a schools is all it takes. This has to be fixed or scrubbed one. I'm confident if you took a poll of all users on this site 99% would say either Pikeville or Raceland we're #1 in 1a. To have them at 7 and 9 is crazy. I'm sure there are teams ranked way ahead of Pikeville that Pikeville and maybe even Raceland would put a running clock on.
If pikeville wins this week against a 6a school they will move up a lot. But it isn’t going to matter where Pikeville plays in the playoffs. Teams like Bracken County, Nicholas County, Pineville have no shot of beating Pikeville or Raceland no matter where the game is played. Paintsville is better than those teams.
We need to make sure that the last regular season RPI's we keep, and then compare them to how the playoff brackets finish. 1A is going to be the prime example of ......NOPE.
It is crazy that Raceland and Pikeville aren't even top 5, obviously this system is broken.
It is possible for Pikeville to go to #1 RPI if they beat Madison Central this week. They will for sure go way above Raceland with a win. Huge game.
I don't know if they would do it by next week but they might by the end of the regular season..

Hazard needs to lose and will when they play Pikeville. They might lose to Bardstown as well.. Pikeville might have the better remaining schedule to put them over the top when it all shuffles out, it will be close. Im not sure it would matter because this Pikeville team just put LCA in a suit case and sent them back to house....... Smile more coffee please....

Jet,
can Pikeville still move up even with a close loss to Madison Central?

Possible. MC will raise their OWP which is 35% of RPI but will hurt OOWP. Depends on how many games everyone's opponents and opponent's opponents win. Need to just beat MC and I believe they go straight to #1. If not will be #1 if they beat MC and Hazard both IMO.
Gains would be very small if any in a loss. Just win baby.
I think you’re right JP. They need to beat Madison Central this week but more importantly you have to beat Hazard. If you don’t RPI will be irrelevant in week 2 because you’re no longer the district winner, so there’s a good chance you go on the road as early as week 2. But if you beat both, it would be a very nice RPI boost.

Pikeville needs Cov Cath and Corbin to continue winning and LCA to start winning games again. But like I said home field advantage isn’t that big of a deal cause Pikeville wins no matter where they play the games.
^I don't know you never know in the playoffs. Raceland is legit and Hazard will be a tough out especially on their homefield. I would feel much better if the games were played at Hambley until Thanksgiving weekend. Then again Paintsville won at Hambley in the playoffs a few years ago.
No player on Pikeville’s roster has ever played a road playoff game (excluding Boykins at PC).
I hope no Pikeville player reads this but all Pikeville needs to do in the playoffs against 1A teams is just show up and get off the bus. They are that much better than any other 1A team.
My question does Pikeville have a chance of picking up a 10th game? I’m not sure of anything on the RPI, Will playing only 9 games hurt.

I know that this is a different season with different teams, but that logic has been proven false in the past, especially with Pikeville.

It is a different season. Pikeville lost to Paintsville in 2014 when they had key players banged up and Paintsville flew a D-1 RB in from Huntington for the playoffs, giving them 3 D-1s in their backfield including Kash Daniel. Then they lost in 2020 in a Covid shortened year to Hazard when they never seemed to hit their stride and also lost to a 2-6 Campbell Co. team. But they won 3 state championships in that span and missed a 4th by 1 point losing to one of the best Beechwood teams in the final seconds. So I'll take it. My point is when Pikeville is great and on a roll they are money. Is a championship a given this year? Of course not, no Pikeville fan thinks that. They have to win it on the field, and earn every win. But I like this team and wouldn't trade with anyone.
That’s funny, RPI is seriously flawed

Well from what I hear you’ll never know about that running clock because thats the other problem with the RPI. None of the teams from 8-1 with the exception of Hazard would ever play Pikeville in the regular season they’d rather play a push over than risk loosing.
This is as funny as Eddie Murphy!! Only problem is that it's not supposed to be in any way!! The KHSAA should be careful not to break an arm patting themselves in the back!!
Where’s all the RPI cry baby’s at?

New 1A RPI after fridays games:

1.) Hazard
2.) Pikeville
3.) Country Day
4.) Raceland

I’ve said it a thousand times but I’ll say it again. The RPI is not meant to be perfect from start to finish. But by the time the season is over it will have worked itself out. Drama queens!!

No, the RPI does not work everything out. It is a horrible system that often rewards teams with weak schedules. Pikeville is fortunate that they were able to schedule a 6A team that plays a weak schedule. Trinity, easily one of the best two teams in Kentucky, is currently ranked 12th in RPI, behind Madison Central and a 3-3 Simon Kenton team.

Trinity will be playing for the state title, whether they make it to the finals or play Saint X sooner, but no matter how many times you say that the RPI works out in the end, the truth is it doesn't. The old system of rotating home field advantage in the playoffs was a more fair system than the RPI system, which drives too many teams' scheduling decisions.
